Luxembourg
Is there anyone here from LUX who can show me a few rides in the area.Road and MTB.
I will be moving to Lux at the end of February. Thanks Brett |
Brett - we've got a fairly active riding community here. Send me a PM when you arrive and we can swap contact info.
You'll also do well to check out both Mapmyride and GPSies.com -- the group I ride with has a few folks with Garmin 705 units and they are forever loading rides up. We stick to MTB in winter and road in warmer months. You'll love cycling here |
Luxroadie, can you recommend any bike shops in Luxemburg City area, commuting/touring oriented if possible? I travel there every once in a while (gotta love the EU bureaucracy:)), I'd like to compare the offerings to what we have here.

HI all,
My names John and I just moved to Lux with my wife about a month ago. I want to go pick up a bike but am having some difficulty making a decision between MTB or Hybrid. I know that I will eventually want to do both. I should have one or the other in a week or two. I would love to meet up for some rides. When's the next time someone is going MTB? John |

--J Shops I'd recommend include: Cycling.lu (name of shop and website address) in Bertrange run by Tom Flammang who rode for Cofidis. More upscale cyclo-cross and road bikes with very good MTB (or VTT here in Lux) support. But Tom can get anything and the service is the best. Great shop for the bike -- he's now got a few guys wrenching bikes besides himself and they are all good for the stuff you can't DIY. Vélo Sport Center on rue de Bonnevoie right in Lux city (south side of Pett. valley) very good inner city shop with some good bikes, great for spare parts, and ok selection of not so expensive clothes/accessories Any of the Velocenter Goedherts -- one in Lux City near English speaking church in Gasperich, one on rue de ? Walferdange? heading up north -- best place for quick and somewhat inexpensive parts and supplies. Occasional good deal on bikes I'm told. Cycles Arnold Kontz -- south end of Lux city past Gare ... not a walkable place -- good for bits and parts -- some good city bikes and reasonable prices Trisport Niederanven SA -- located in Niederanven (further out of town) -- also the place for Triathlon gear Bike World in Walferdange -- good selection of bike stuff, parts, and clothes (expensive though - clothes can be had cheaper in France at Decathalon or via websites from Germany). Ostergaard's much further out in Mersch - haven't been myself but others really like this one Almost all shops have a commuter/touring tilt as many bikes here are sold for folks to meander around the upper and lower city. |

John Things have been quiet lately with the group I ride with -- lots of business travel and this is the tail end of swim meet season so things have been hectic. Probably will start up again in mid to late Feb -- send a PM and good luck with the bike purchase. Got with a MTB (VTT here in Europe) -- Hybrids are good for roads but the trails here get pretty bumpy -- you can always put slick tires on the MTB if you find yourself sticking to roads |
Thanks guys for all the replies.i will be here from 23 February and will look forward to hooking up for a ride soon after that.

Juha - apologies ... I don't always make it into the European forum when I stop in and visit the lunacy of BF.
Shops I'd recommend include... I'm usually staying in one of the hotels near Place de la Gare, close to the railway station... the area doesn't seem particularly nasty to me? Well, maybe nasty by Luxembourg scale :). And I seldom have time to hang around, so maybe I don't see the real picture there. --J |
Just waiting for my container to arrive with my bikes now.
