Many people recommend Silca’s online calculator but I notice it doesn’t include internal wheel rim width as an input. That seems like a vital parameter to produce a recommendation. I’ve used Zipp (SRAM) for several years for my Zipp road wheels. There are other online calculators. All of them produce different pressure recommendations even when using the same input variables.

Yes, they are all just a starting point but, accuracy is the goal, right?

is there truly a Best In Class, online, tire pressure calculator that you experienced, knowledge gravel cyclist truly swear by?

This year was fantastic. Cool start and about 70 at the finish time. it rained three days out keeping the sand traps manageable. We ran a 2:21-2:26 depending on the computer used. I think we were 2:26 on the clock. Not bad for me considering I am no cyclist. That’s my brother. He could have run a 1:40 or better. He would have been top 10. My goal was not to have to walk the final climb. I did get caught in a rut and had to walk 50-100 feet but made the rest of it. Next year I will train more than twice a week and not drink so much lol.

The 30 is not really a race with money awards but it’s competitive. I think the winner ran a 1:37.

Lots of racers this year. This was my second year. I ride with my brother in the orange/pink kit. He is on a Lauf Seigla with 2.2 conti race king grip compound. So he has more traction than anyone. I was on my ozark trail g1 frame build with conti Tera trail 45c. We are locals and ride these all year. So if it seems like we send the downhills we do. Top speed was 50-52mph. depending on the gps unit. 35 on the better grave sections.
If you ever have the chance to ride this race it’s a great event. The expo is not to bad either. Lots of nex gen bike tech to look at.

The gravel starts at 5min.

Not sure on my next event. My brother is doing the 200 at unbound again and that’s way out of my reach lol. I can average 200 watts for 2 hours. He can do that for 13 hours lol.
After unbound we are going to travel Ca to various events time allowing.

Enjoy the race footage.

we have no idea if it will work at all with the vibrations and movement. This test will tell us that. there have been a few try this with mixed results. It seems to be more about your location than anything.

This will be a remote stream run through the home computer and OBS. So the home system will be doing the heavy lifting and only using the remote camera and audio feed. This will allow all features of the sream on twitch with no compromises. All commands all graphics will still work.

-internet: Starlink mini with anker solix battery.
-camera for testing: iPhone 16pro
-chat screen: iPhone 14pro.
-audio: rode mic lav system. (The iPhone can use external audio)
power for the phones is a smaller anker battery mounted in the top tube bag.

if this works we will set up the jetson nano (allows a GoPro to connect wirelessly to the stream) and use GoPro instead of iPhones going forward.

If we have success my brother wants to try and stream the 200 at unbound.

what do you think? Any ideas?
Hey all,

I am planning on riding the GAP and C&O late this summer from Pittsburgh to DC.

The only bike I currently own is a Giant TCR Advanced (carbon everywhere) and it has 30mm GravelKing tires on it. At some point the bike will have saddle, frame and handlebar bags to carry all my gear, around 20ish pounds. And I weight 198 at my heaviest.

Would that bike be good enough for the ride?

Minimum tire clearance for Unbound?

My gravel bike can accommodate 42mm gravel tires but there isn’t much clearance to the folk. In the extreme, historical cases, NO amount of tire clearance is enough for the worse mud at Unbound. But in practical terms, in typical years, what minimum clearance is advisable?
