Ideal choice will be primarily camping, expect possibility of hotels or warm showers as available or needed.

* Any information going south on Rt 1 (Conowingo Dam) vs Rt 40 (Hatem Bridge)? I used Rt 1 in 94, 2001 and 2007, the dam is doable. I've read that many riders prefer Rt 40, with mixed reports of police interaction if you use 40 during the week. Does anyone have any experience or comments on crossing the Susquehana?

Washington DC - is it a congested traffic jam (i.e. avoid), or is it doable to see the Basilica of the National Shrine?

C & O / GAP - any issues with navigation? camping, or finding other accommodation (don't have any reservations)

Return - Pittsburg - Lancaster - Wilmington - Does PA Bicycle Route S make sense? How easy is it to follow, or find from the end of the GAP Trail? camping/accommodations?
