My friends and I are avid road cyclists and we ride on mainly back roads which are rural BUT residential (not many farms left). We obviously sometimes need to stop for a nature break. We are usually quite discreet and do this away from any homes or people, but sometimes a surprise passing car or person sees us. I don’t believe they actually see our privates, but it’s obvious from afar what we are doing. Rarely, but occasionally, a passerby sees us and gets, ahem, pissed off and yells at us. We typically shrug this off and/or apologize, and so far there have been no criminal charges, but I am mindful that technically this COULD be considered indecent exposure and make us subject to criminal charges and in some jurisdictions, even get us on the “sex offender” list, so that gives me pause.

Any comments and/or suggestions are welcomed. Please keep it civil.

This post is partly inspired by an interaction today with a passing motorist. As above, we were discreet and NFW he saw any anatomy, but from our stance the activity was obvious. He chewed us out, I tried to be kind and said sorry, but we are out in the country and the wildlife does it. He insisted this was wrong and inappropriate. I countered that I understood his point, but we would have to agree to disagree. He would NOT concede and yelled he wanted my address so he could piss on my lawn.

I am 99% he was NOT the land owner, just a random angry motorist.

And I am considering purchasing a new bike, thinking that this might be my last bike purchase before I end up in the nursing home! Our local bike shop doesn't handle Specialized anymore. They offer Treks. I want to support them, but I was blown away by the base price of the Trek Domane which they recommended to me--almost $3800. My Specialized I bought for 2100. I was expecting 3000-3200 but not more than 4000, when you take into consideration taxes and extras. I want the bike to be Carbon. Is a Specialized Roubaix my best bet again? I have trouble figuring out what's what on the Specialized web site, which is why I like dealing with a local store. I suppose I could stick with my old one, but I am noting that I am slowly having to replace and fix things. Obviously, I am having a conversation with myself. I've spent lots of time trying to figure everything out. I learned that my Michelin Power Cup 25 mm tires are actually 28.5 mm wide when fully inflated :foo:. I actually weighed my bikes. I was riding a late-90's Scapin Pro Racer with alloy wheels that have a 17 mm inner width on very smooth roads at about 90 PSI. Felt fast. But my little bike computer told me a very different story today after I inflated to 76 rear and 71 front. The acceleration didn't feel as fast, but I was really rolling once I got going. I have to get more scientific, but it appears that I was hitting speeds over 2 mph on certain parts of my ride more than when I was riding higher PSIs. Oh, and the practice of placing the hands on the hoods, lowering the head forward, and compressing the arms/elbows inward made a huge difference. You can see the speed jump when you get into that aero position. Checkmate SLR Project One that I decided to put a 50T Aero on the front since it is so flat here. I kept going back and forth if I wanted to run a 48T, but I am finally starting to enjoy the 50T. The gear ratios are really close to the 44T front I run on the Lynskey, so that seems to work out pretty good. Running the 35mm Pirelli's P Zero Race TLR's but with TPU's for now as I am not settled on tire size. I plan to run a couple different size tires for 300 or 400 miles each, and see what I like best. So I don't want to deal with the sealant yet. I ran the 40mm Pirelli's on the Lynskey road wheels, so I have some background know how they ride on that bike, and they are lovely. So they will be my last test. Very comfortable bike, and just doing some final dialing in on my saddle height and position. Really like it though. I'm trying to stay around the 2500 on the high end but found the specialized roubaix sl8 sport on sale and tried to do more searching for bikes in that range and found the polygon strattos s8x on bikesonline. From just looking at the parts list it seems polygon would be the bike to go with but I wanted a more knowledgeable opinion than trying to google everything.

Is it worth going specialized over polygon for that price range? I wanted to try and get a carbon frame at least and found polygon offers a lot with better prices as well. I'm up to any suggestions as someone getting their first road bike. Is it worth the 2800 for those bikes or could I get away with a cheaper carbon bike and be just as happy?

I think that I'm losing my mind on what the correct tire pressure should be for my newest ride. I've used several online pressure calculators that give me wildly different recommendations. So, I invite some of your recommendations. I am presently at 175 pounds, my bike is 18.5 lbs, I'm riding wheels with a 21 mm inner width, a 25 mm outer width, 25 mm tires, tubeless, hooked rims, riding on flat smooth surfaces. I live in the desert, so the atmosphere tends to heat up to quite high temperatures, if that matters. A caveat is that my wheels (HED Jets wheels) state right on the rim that pressure should not exceed 70 PSI. I rode the bike recently with 68 PSI at the front and 70 PSI at the rear, and had good speed. Acceleration was sluggish and uphill grades seemed to be more difficult than they should be. Can anyone recommend a good tire pressure calculator or a good range of pressure that I should be looking at? Maybe I should move to 28 mm (25 is supposedly optimal for my wheels)? My current pair is getting worn out, and I see that besides the Genius line, they have a “racing” shoe the Wire. I am inclined to stick with the Genius, but am curious to hear if anyone has used BOTH and has an opinion on pros/cons of each. The Internet says the wire is stiffer but that’s all I get.

Great bike, no real complaints. I ride 4 to 5 times per week on 28mm GP5000s and it has been excellent. Recently I picked up a used Pinarello Prince as a crit and travel bike, running 32mm GP5000s. I ride 4 to 5 times per week on 28mm GP5000s and it has been excellent.

Recently I picked up a used Pinarello Prince as a crit and travel bike, running 32mm GP5000s. After a few races and rides on 32s, going back to the ADH on 28s, the difference in comfort is very noticeable. While the stiffness is not an issue on either bike. It's more about the ride quality over longer efforts.

The limitation is the ADH maxes out at 28mm. The new Scylon looks appealing since it clears 32s (and as bonus is a bit more aero and race oriented).

So I am considering a frame upgrade primarily for tire clearance and comfort, not chasing marginal aero gains. And YES, I'm aware about dropping the pressure but it never hits that same level of 32s.

Two questions:
1. Has anyone gone from an ADH to the new Scylon or made a similar switch?
