We have a couple other tandems so hasn't been a high priority, but I think its time to get on this thing.. If it is a '76 it would be a 50th anniversary bike :-). It needs a good cleaning, the paint may not look as good as it really is in these images since it has been hanging in the garage for years. I didn't want to just get after it and scratch the paint with the dust. I will get it outside and give it a good bath this weekend hopefully.

I would like to learn more about this, I know it has the not so desireable disc brake for a drag brake, of course the bar tape will be changed, assuming an early bike like this came with cloth tape originally?

Appreciate any and all input from those who know these bikes.
Anyone in Portland tried something like this? How does it handle hills?

So i am planning to get a quad tandem at some point and was wondering if there is anything different to riding a quad over a triplet ? Anything unique to quads over tandems and triples ? i own both a tandem and a triple just wondering what a quad is like.

65 mm Caption's Bottom Bracket Tetra Tandem

I have a 2009 Calfee Tetra tandem that has the original eccentric that for the first time was removed today. It has 2 mm raised outside edges and 2 screws that compress those 2mm raised edges against the bottom bracket to fix it in place. These edges are about 1.7 mm thick so the total bottom bracket width with the eccentric is 65 mm + 1.7 mm+ 1.7 mm = 68.4 mm.

In picture I have it partially pulled out so you can so the raised edges that affix themselves to the side of the frame.

Why do I want a new eccentric? This 2009 eccentric has been hard to adjust and I am overall updating this 17 year old Calfee.

I am surprised the captains BB is 65 mm wide and the stokes is 68 mm wide.

My question is, can I put a 68 mm wide eccentric in the captain's 65 mm wide bottom bracket. The internal diameter is a standard 54 mm? I can't think that an additional 1.5 mm on each side is going to be a significant problem.
