Fat bikes and headwinds
We’ve had some very windy weather here in the U.K. lately. Yesterday I went out for a ride in strong, gusty winds. The ride revealed two aspects of fat bike riding that I hadn’t noticed with other types of bike before. Firstly, strong headwinds really slow you down! At one point I almost came to a standstill in the face of a persistent and very strong headwind. Nevertheless I enjoyed the ride as it was a fitness ride and my calorie consumption was around 30% more than it would usually be on the same route.
The other thing I noticed was how stable the bike was. Whilst riding in the wind I wasn’t blown around all over the road. The bike stayed in the direction I wanted to go in. As I was riding on the road mostly, this was a great positive for me from a safety point of point.
Anyone else fat biked in exceptionally strong winds?
