Used fat bike
I'm giving up on my Sun Spider, the SA 8 speed IGH is too delicate, I have found two used candidates, an aluminum Costco North Rock, kinda rough shape but solid frame for $200 and a steel Diamondback El Oso Gordo, great shape but $425. Both are 26 inch fat bikes, but I think the Northrock is more upgradable, which looks to be the better buy?

Neither of those are upgrades to the Sun Spider. You are just moving from one bike shaped object to another bike shaped object. You need to increase your budget.
