Anyone else do things in excess??

I think I'm figuring out my patterns. 600 miles last week and a big fat 0 this week. But lots of golf, beer and wine this week. Where in the heck is the middle ground?? How much more can this 60+ year old body handle a regime like this?

Anyone else seem to do things in extreme??

OldsCOOL 05-16-15 07:23 PM

I am a habitual overdoer. Anything worth doing is worth overdoing.

MinnMan 05-16-15 07:42 PM

600 miles in a week? that's heroic. Or crazy.

I'm tired after a 250 mile week, relishing my rest day to just eat and loaf. If I rode 600, I'd take a week off too. Hope you enjoyed the beer, wine and golf. :)

No. Not ever - LOL!

Only when it comes to my diet :(

Ya beat me to it.

I think it's a sign that you have what others covet ... passion.

That's it. I tell people it isnt an obsession, I just like it that much.

freedomrider1 05-17-15 08:17 AM

Just Do It.

Wileyrat 05-17-15 09:08 AM

When I went to the gym Friday, I decided to switch my leg stuff from leg presses to squats. I can leg press quite a bit, so I figured I could probably squat pretty well too.....Bad idea.

I put what I thought would be a good start weight on to lean how to do this, and decided I would do 4 sets like I do leg presses, after one set I was going hmmmm, after two I was wondering about the four sets, after three my legs were cramping up.

My legs are too sore to ride now. I'm going back to the gym tomorrow and do more.

My life philosophy: anything worth doing is worth doing in excess.

jppe 05-17-15 10:24 AM

Thanks guys. I'm beginning to understand things a little better now.

Funny, but instead of driving the 3 1/2 hours back home from the beach my father in-law and I are going to squeeze in another 18 holes before we hit the road. He's 87 so I guess age is not really a factor?!?!

(Oh, I rode for 50 miles this am as well....)

big john 05-17-15 11:14 AM

Sounds to me like you're living the dream.

RISKDR1 05-17-15 11:27 AM

Don't worry about it. Giving up all of those excesses does not make you live longer. It just seems a lot longer. And never forget my mantra. ""Everyone dies. Not everyone will have LIVED"

sam21fire 05-17-15 06:22 PM

I work excessively at avoiding excess.

Agreed. I don't even think I could build up to that kind of mileage. If I was doing 200 miles a week I'd be posting all over this forum like I was Superman!

A very good mantra!

tg16 05-18-15 10:55 AM

To some extent I do; however, I don't golf so I substitute it with Bourbon.

Trust me. When you reach your limit, you will be like a car that runs out of gas on the side of the road.

OldsCOOL, that’s a wonderful way of expressing it! That fits me to the letter. :thumb:

We find ourselves in good company here.

obed7 05-18-15 01:53 PM

nothing i do is excessive. I proved that by doing it.

Dudelsack 05-18-15 02:16 PM

You're not retired by any chance, are you?

Daniel4 05-18-15 07:51 PM

I procrastinate. But when it comes to my bicycle, I guess I have too many bags: two sets of panniers, two trunks, three handlebar bags and a duffel bag. Looking for the perfect arrangement.

"Too much of a good thing is wonderful"-Mae West or close to what she said.
