Thanks for reminding me that I need to execute a will. If I die intestate my sister will get my house and personal property, and I cannot stand my sister. At least my cash and life insurance proceeds are taken care of, so she cannot get her greedy mitts on them.

My sister didn't visit my mom once in more than a decade. No birthdays. No mother's day. No Christmas. Nothing. My mother never even met her second husband. But when my mom's health started to fail, my sister suddenly became involved again. My mom and I both believed that my sister only did so because she was worried that my mom would disinherit her. My mom carried a $50K life insurance policy on my father even though they had been divorced for a long time. When my father died, my mom gave me $20K of the proceeds kept $20K for herself and gave my sister only $10K because of her behavior. My sister didn't know this and still doesn't. Had she found out, she would have been pissed.

This hadn't really occurred to me, which probably means that somewhere deep down I have yet to come to terms with my own mortality.

Ideally I'd like to be found dead at the roadside having been out on my bike. Were that to happen I'd still have been using the bikes until the moment came, and their ultimate destination would be immaterial to me. But I guess it's more likely that failing health will cause me to cease pedaling before I actually die, in which case the local bike co-op is going to do rather well.

Once I'm dead it doesn't matter to me what happens with my bike. Knowing my wife and the fact that no one else in the family rides, she'll probably have it buried with me.

I definitely could go for a sudden "splat" on the road - way more appealing than a slow miserable death from some hideous disease.

I volunteer at a community bike workshop and we get quite a lot of bikes from the families of cyclists who have died. I used to ride a bike I bought from the workshop which had been donated by the family of a former bike shop owner - together with a lot of nos spares and good quality tools.

I have a couple of pretty nice bikes that are stored at my sons' houses. I assume they'll keep them when I'm gone. Don't care about the rest because I won't be needing them anymore. They'll just be more sentimental junk for the kids to figure out how to dispose of.

Yes, I used to do the same until I moved to a different area. I may have posted before about a 1952 Holdsworth that was donated by an octogenarian who had owned the bike from new but could no longer ride. His wife was in tears when they dropped it off. Too small for me, sadly...

I have a 12 year old son that will hopefully stop growing at about my height. He helped build a few, so he has an interest in bikes now. He has no interest in girls yet, so I am sure I will loose him for a while once that kicks in.

The teenage daughters could care less, I am not even sure if they know where I go on weekend mornings.

My Tour Easy gets taken apart and put in my casket with me.. My other bikes should fetch a thou for my Local Bike Shop...It's the least I can do for the guy

My sons are both too tall for my bikes and (so far) all the grandkids are way too short. Still . . . you never know.

Reminds me of how I got my Hercules 3-Spd. though. An older gentleman brought it the local bike shop for repair. When the shop phoned to tell him it was ready to be picked up his widow answered. She didn't want or care about the bike and told the shop to just get rid of it.

So . . . shop owner knew I had a thing for British 3-Speed bikes (Sturmey-Archer OCD) and said I could have it if I picked it up soon. Drove right over there and have been riding it on and off ever since! Hopefully my wife will give it away after I die.
