How was your last ride of the year
Took advantage of the warm weather here in the NE and did a quick 12 mile sprint this afternoon. Hope to get out and do another ride - first of the new year tomorrow.

Did 12 miles Wednesday, mostly to rephotograph an area under different sunset light. A coolish 40-something but beautiful clear sunny afternoon. Intended to ride on the 31st but was sidelined by back and neck spasms. Will try again on the 1st, although I don't put any particular significance on dates for motivation or indicators of future involvements.

I thought our NYE gravel ride it was going to be a rain-soaked sufferfest, but the rain stopped just before it started and it turned out to be a perfect day.

Best ride of the last four months, and longest at 54 miles (I know, nothing to most of you, but I am old and fat and lazy and sickly and make a lot of excuses. ) Tried to get out before work and couldn't, so I went just as it got dark and got home just before the serious drunk drivers got rolling.
Like Canklecart, I don't much care for the whole date thing--it is a different year depending on where you live, and for many cultures it isn't New year's eve, so ... It was good to get out for a ride when conditions were right, every part of the bike was working properly, and I felt strong enough at the end to tack on a few extra miles. Really a lucky concatenation of factors, and happily I capitalized.
So ... I guess I might start the "New Year" sore and with cramps.

Out and back to volunteer at a casino fundraiser for the local bike co-op.
Outbound 2015: 11:00 PM at -6°C in moderate traffic, Inbound 2016: 03:20 AM at -11°C in virtually no traffic. Just under six miles total. A pleasant way to see in the New Year while my bride was nursing on the nightshift.

Not my preference: One hour on a spin bike at the gym, followed by lifting weights. It poured all day here on December 31. However, I bike commuted 32 miles on Dec. 30, and that was a very pleasant ride with balmy temperatures and a bit of luck avoiding the rain.

My last ride was on the grocery grabber. Trip to Walmart at 0545 for a few items and dropped them off at the house = 5 miles, then to meet friend and a short ride with him to the turn-off point (where he headed out for a long/fast ride) = 10 miles and then back home = 10 miles. Enjoyable 25 miler to close out the year. Had another biking bud stop by the house later in the day and found out that he finished his year with a 125 mile ride yesterday and 20,922 miles for the year. He had hope to make 18,000!

40 miles for my last ride of the year. Haven't ridden in a month! Argh! Felt good for the first half of the ride, so kept on to the turn-around at 20 miles. That last 20 was BRUTAL. Stiff cold headwind proved I was underdressed, the jetlag from flying in from london the day before told me an old fart like me shouldn't think he can go ride 40 miles in 42° weather after travelling for 20 hours the previous day. My left hamstring started hurting, and I was cold...Almost gave up and called my girlfriend to come rescue me...but soldiered on! Didn't make any new Strava PRs, but made it home in a reasonable time.
I feel good today! Going out today for the first ride of 2016! Happy New Year!

Way too vivid a description; brings back too many memories. Glad you made it home; I bet that shower and meal almost made it all worth it.

Tuesday was the last ride for 2015, it is the only day that hasn't had any rainfall. Several roads were/are closed around the area, the creeks and both the Escambia, and the Perdido Rover are approaching flood stage. The ride was great, 26.5 miles, and decent conditions.
Can't ride anyway, started a new PD, multi-symptom medication Wednesday, and it kicked my butt. Supposed to be adjusted to it by Saturday.

Last night's commute home will be memorable.
I'd tapered off through October and November in anticipation of winter, which really has yet to arrive here on the North Coast. Earlier in December I decided the hell with it, I'd increase my intensity again--train back up. As a result, this past week I've had really good legs, actually reminiscent of May or June. For the record, I closed out the month with 467 miles, when most years, I have trouble reaching my 300 miles goal. (In December 2009 I logged only 173.)
Anyway, short story: I dropped an e-bike. Not "was dropped by", but "I dropped".
Longer story: Working to my benefit were the aforementioned good legs, and a 10-15 MPH tailwind. To my disadvantage, were two loaded panniers, fenders, dynamo lights and assorted commuting accoutrements. Plus the fact e-bikes are limited to 20 MPH.
I'd pulled onto the MUP and saw a headlight approaching from behind, so I spun up only to a middle speed to wait and see who it might be. There are several other commuters I run into occasionally, and I wanted to share a Happy New Year's.
Turns out, it's a guy on an e-bike. And he proceeds to rub my nose in it. I put up with it for half-mile, maybe a little more. Then I asked, "Hey, are those things really limited to only 20 MPH?"
"Yeah," he replied.
"Too bad", I replied. "Happy New Year, and see you later." I slipped down to the drops, clicked up a gear, then another and another after that. I didn't feel guilty at all as his headlight receded in my mirror.
What goes around comes around. Rub my nose it and I'll retaliate in kind.
I'm told over on the commuting forum that this is adolescent chest-thumping of the sort associated with e-bike haters. Well, when you're 58 with a chest full of emphysema and a partially collapsed lung, I figure it deserves a thump or two. Loosens the phlegm if nothing else.

My last ride of 2015 turned out to be the Metro Boston Boxing day ride detailed in this thread. https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-vi...-saturday.html
It was actually one of my top rides of the year. Great way to end out a year of cycling that was probably the best of my life (so far). Winter is finally descending on New England, so it might be a while before I have a chance for anything except some short rides for a while.

I had a great ride on December 20th. I got in 22 miles and enjoyed mild weather. I'll ride this weekend, but it will be 10 degrees colder.

Last ride of the year came early, Dec. 8. I knew that I would be out of town the last two weeks of the year and even though I had a cold I went out anyway so that I could hit my yearly goal. Made the cold worse, but it's better now, and I reached my yearly target.

Ended last year with a 37 mile ride yesterday and started this year with a 48 mile ride today. Not sure how far I'm riding for tomorrow but if the weather holds up on Sunday, some of my buddies are going to do a birthday ride for one of them that turns 62.
