N-1, Levon has left the building

My 2012 Black Mountain Cycles Monster Cross bike has been one of my all time favorite bikes for the 3+ years I've had it. Based on some good online recommendations, I bought it in hopes of building up a capable bike for riding dirt/gravel roads. It more than lived up to that goal. According to my Garmin, we've covered over 4500 miles together. Along the way, we have discovered many of the dirt/gravel and mixed surface routes that I have mapped and shared with the local gravel grinding scene and have ridden most of the gravel events in this part of the state. We've even done a few rides on singletrack MTB trail just for kicks.

I thought I was replacing this bike with a sexy lightweight carbon Crux with high end components and hydraulic discs, but while that bike was amazing, I found I enjoyed the better fitting, smoother riding, heavier steel bike. The Crux was sold and Levon remained. But now I have built up Annie, a steel AWOL frame which rides as smoothly, has even wider tire capacity and some minor geometry/fit advantages. It was time to say goodbye.

Fortunately, the bike isn't going far away and I'll get to see it in action for some time to come. One of my regular road riding partners had borrowed the bike a few times to ride gravel rides and has been after me to sell it to him. Once I was sure the AWOL was going to work out, I relented. Farewell!

3+ years? I can remember when you got that bike and how you named it after Levon Helm. Time flies
I keep thinking I'd like to try a gravel/cross bike but I think I'd rather upgrade the mtb.
I do have a 1988 Cannondale touring bike I could take off road. hmmm

There's no rule saying you can't do both.

At least he is going to a good home. Now for a series of reports on the next build up.

The next build was completed a few months ago. I had to be sure the new bike was a keeper before I'd let this one go.
