Back when I started riding, off road or mountain bikes (or even klunkers) had yet to be invented. So, my first road bike was a baloon tyred Schwinn, of unknown vintage, other than it was old when I got it. Then a 3 speed "English Racer", don't recall the brand. My first drop bar bike was a 10 speed (2 in front, 5 in back) white Citoh with a real lugged frame. After it was stolen, more baloon tyerd monsters, stingrays/knock offs. I quit riding for a few years, then got riding again with a used Fuji Mt. Fuji.
Current "collection" is a Giant Cypress DX, Huffy Key Largo, Miami Sun adult trike, KHS Montana Summit, Pacific PK 7 full suspenson, and an OCC Schwinn Stingray.

Funny that. Those that bought really bad bikes, they're not posting anymore. Probably not riding either. Just poking fun.

First "road" bike I purchased was a 1972 Raleigh Record (10 speeds, leather saddle, in platinum and blue) that I purchased with a year's earnings from my paper route. Sold that for the original purchase price to a former housemate shortly after my wife and I married in 1985 and purchased a Univega Supra Sport (triple butted chromoly) that I still own but no longer ride. This was the first bike that actually fit my 37" inseam and 6'5" height. I do have plans to rebuild it one of these years. My current trusty steeds are my Linear recumbent (very comfortable and stable) and, occasionally, my Cannondale hybrid in a "jumbo" frame...the name of the size is amusingly appropriate. We also have a 1993 Trek T200 tandem that looks nice hanging from the ceiling in the garage...we have our hands full with our sons (both special needs adults), so it is rare that we can ride together.

My first road bike was a $79 bike store brand from a local chain. 10 speed, with stem shifters. Have no idea what the frame was made of but I'm guessing steel. After that it was mtn bikes and hybrids for 25 years till I bought my current Seven.

My first road bike was a blue Schwinn varsity with the down tube shifters. I wanted something more exotic and got a Raleigh Gran Prix. After I was able to get a better paying job I purchased a Raleigh International then I got a bug in my butt traded in the Raleigh for a Cinelli that I still have. I bought a neglected Falcon Super Route at a estate sale and restored it and decided I wanted a new bike and purchased a Masi Vincere from Eriks. All my favorite bikes have been road bikes and don't know why anyone would want anything else.

Schwinn Varsity. The year was 1969. It was blue, and beautiful. Broke my heart when it was stolen.

About 30 years ago I started riding around on a too-small Schwinn 3 speed which I dug out of the ivy where I rented a guest house. Soon I bought a new KHS road bike for $150. Stem shifters and steel rims, it was actually dependable and it fit.
Graduated up to a Schwinn Tempo, 105 components and a lot lighter than the KHS, I crashed it on the bike path in 1987.
Next, a Trek 660, which broke at the bottom bracket, then a Landshark which was a wet noodle which was replaced with a Tesch s-22, which was the stiffest thing imaginable.
After that I got a CAAD5 Cannondale, then a Gunnar Sport and 4 years ago a Seven Axiom Race.
Also had 2 touring bikes and a few mountain bikes.
Maybe it's time for some new bikes!

'70 or '71 Sears 10 speed. I don't remember the details, but it was blue with a lugged steel frame with stem mounted friction shifters and suicide brake levers. I rode it everywhere until I started riding motorcycles.

First bike shop bike was a 1990 Cannondale SR400. Light and fast, but brutally stiff. Sold it a year later to buy the Bridgestone RB-1 I rode for the next 18 years until a car destroyed it.

First was a Schwinn Boat Anchor - I mean Continental. Followed by two more Schwinns, a LeTour and a Super Letour. Those were all a long time ago. Current road bikes are both RANS recumbents that I ride on the road. One long wheelbase and one short wheelbase.

I'm pretty sure my first real bike I bought for myself was a Schwinn Varsity 10-speed back in the early sixties (?). It was the least finicky bike I've ever ridden, and the shifts were maybe the smoothest of any bike I've owned (up until my Specialized Camber 29er). I don't remember what happened to it, but in the late sixties/early seventies I bought a Gitane Tour de France. Great bike, but really finicky Campy dérailleurs that seem to need constant adjustment.

I wish I still had the Schwinn. The Gitane... yeah, but not so much.

1976 Motobecane Mirage, in that distinctive grey-blue color. Wish I'd kept it. Sold everything, including my tools and Dettos, about 15 years ago after injuries from a car wreck.

Still tempted every time I see a '70s era Motobecane or Peugeot, but since I sold all my tools I'll probably start over with something newer with standard components. Unless I stumble upon a good freebie or cheapie to play with.
