45 Minutes
How Far In Advance you should drink coffee to Improve endurance, per a study published in, 'International Journal of Sport Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism'.
So to cut a long article shorter, "Drinking three to seven milligrams of caffeine from coffee per Kilo of body weight (For a 140 pound woman, that's roughly a large coffee) Could boost by nearly 25% how far, hard, long you go while running or cycling.. I new It, I've done this for years now, I always liked starting a ride buzzed :P (This is most likely why my 57 year old self can often run down 30 somethings In the Single tracks ya think ?) |

Interesting. I don't drink coffee but tried some of these a few weeks ago but didn't notice any "energy" boost. :o

Just to cover all the bases I suggest sipping coffee continually during the day.
|
I usually ride after 2-3 cups of coffee and cereal with yogurt and a banana. Good cycling fuel.

Two Excedrin tablets contain 130mg of caffeine. I shoot a couple of those for morning rides. Helps with aches and pains, too.

Value: 200mg for $.05 = JetAlert (20 minutes before IMO)
|
Why would anyone, ever, try to do anything without having a coffee first?
|
I drink lots of coffee, so am pretty inured. 200mg is helpful for me. Cheap generic No-Doz tablets are good. I find little to no time lag between consumption and effect.
|
Another long time coffee drinker here. I'll grind fresh for every serving and a home DeLonghi espresso machine provides the right concentration. If the ride is 3 hours or less, I'll prepare a bowl of fresh berries and a banana. If its a longer ride, the banana goes into a peanut butter sandwich.

I only take gel if running a marathon. My pre-workout intake is based on what I'm doing. For biking, just water, coffee and toast. |
Hahahaha Loved these responses, :)
After I work in the yard on hot summer days a hot cup of java cools me right down~ |
Starbucks VIA works fine in cold water. Just sayin' . . .

One time and one time only I took Aleve before a ride so I could better cope with the pain locker that I planed to put myself In..

On our regular rides through the coast range, my wife and I take a break at the second to last hilltop to drink a Mountain Dew and eat a bar. This seems to help us fly along the horrid nine-mile road that enters our city from the suburbs where speed is important for safety. Since the caffeine content is well below the OP's recommendation, I guess it's the sugar that gives us that boost, not that the fifteen minute break hurts us any either.

I go through a ton of coffee, and for the most part I'll put the empty cup down and then go get on the bike. The one exception is a long organized/charity ride. I generally skip the first pit stops, and a couple of cups of coffee are gong to make me stop. So I take drink a Stacker 2 about 2 hours before, and then one about half an hour before I start.
