Wow, so many replies - thank you everyone.
Taking the advise of most, I tried different shorts and actually found that an old pair of Pearl Izumi from the beginning of this century seemed to cause less discomfort as they seem to have more padding in the right place.
Also, even though I eye-balled the levelness of my seat and was satisfied, after using a spirit level, I noticed that is was up a degree or two at the front. Setting this down to more near level also seemed to relief me somewhat.

I'd vote for the new / better shorts. Worst case scenario and you have another pair. Changing saddles on the other hand is a much more expensive proposition. Spoken by someone who's spent about $1500 in saddles over the last year and a half (for my wife) in her quest for comfort. And yes, she has outrageously expensive bib shorts. Pro bike fit is also well worth the money, IMO.

I ride a noseless ISM Adamo peak Saddle and my,,,"BoyZ' are never In a bind and are always very happy..
But I do wear a real nice pair of Craft padded bike shorts, just to keep things all snug and comfy In one place
Moving Into the modern age is hard for us old farts, we so want to fit in and ride the pain saddles we came up on and see the young rubber people riding....
This saddle is 4 years old and now on my full suspension bike, No sign of wearing out yet..

I had similar issue when I used bike shorts.
Since I've been using properly fitted bibs for the last 20 yrs these issues have disappeared.
I use a variety of saddles too with no such issue.
I would try a good pair of bibs before I went to other more expensive changes.

I wear plain old shorts and use old Troxel seats. Sure, I ride two Rollfasts and a Schwinn Cruiser SS...

In my experience and opinion, as with Carbon Fiber Boy, a good pair of shorts keeps things in place. But this time of year, I notice that I sag to one side of the saddle or the other. Then I get the shredded onions syndrome. I try to repackage the equipment.

You could try putting your saddle in the freezer before every ride. Eventually the boys will shrivel inside in anticipation of hitting the cold leather and your problem will be solved...

i wear high quality cycling shorts with an athletic supporter under them. i know they say nothing under cycling shorts but i have never been able to get comfortable that way since i started cycling "seriously" at 14 years old. (i am in mid 50s now). everything else is comfortable except for the area you mentioned and suffer great discomfort if i try to ride without a jock strap.
