Ok,,
So there you are now,, feeling all 'Bad Boy' and ready to get a Strava KOM or go out and hit that 20 mile mark,,or,,10 miles or fitty within 3 hours or whatever, matters not ! You've learned to prepare your body, proper diet, fluids, yadda yadda yadds, You've learned to never stretch cold but to warm up first, all the malarkey,,you got your act together.. Then you go out and poor on the coals and you find nothing but head winds and up hills.. Nothing is working for you, your ride becomes a fight and you get tired~~~~ Ok so rest ON THE BIKE, DO NOT STOP ! Do NOT slow your cadence, Do just the opposite ! Drop a gear or two and spin UP a little, pedal easier and go slower..... Rest while pedaling. As soon as you catch your breath (I hope you know combat breathing),, As soon as your heart settles down get after it. Make for max power and start your Interval training right then... Your not off your game on this day of pain and frustration, It's just that the game has changed, for you, on this ride. I can't tell you how many times a particularly punchy climb has knocked me down, how many times I have failed to clean it to the top. When this happens I will ride back to the bottom and try again, this often causes me to bail off the bike even sooner because I have burned myself down so much on the first attempt. I go back down and I know I cannot ride to the top on this day, so I pick my bike up and walk up the hill as fast as I can. It won't be long before I ride right up that one because my alternative is harder,,,, Follow me ? Mountain biking Is a blast~ , Ok I'm done.. |
