Tool road kill finds?
For me, a side bonus of cycling is the occasional "road kill" tool I find lying on the road or the shoulder. Two days ago it was a nice straight-jawed midsized Channellock plier; a few months ago, a 10mm socket; several years ago, a bunch of zipties; before that, more sockets and small wrenches and even a portable stereo system(!).
Has anyone else found some good road kill?

I found a large Craftsman screwdriver in the middle of the road. I removed it so it doesn't puncture a car tire.
I gave it to the kid down the block and told him to bring it to a Sears and they'll give him a brand new one.

A DeWalt sawzall. Works great, but it was a pain to ride home with it.

Found some guys wallet complete with credit cards and cash in the middle of a suburban street one Sunday morning. Was less than 2 miles from the local municipal complex so just rode over and gave to the PD desk Sargent to reunite with its owner.
Other than that only find in recent memory was a Matco brand wrench with 3/8 and 7/16ths ends.

I've found an assortment of small tools over the years, an UnderArmor lightweight jacket, a decent pair of men's sandals, but my best find to date was a 12' aluminum extension ladder (had to ride home and get the pickup for that one).

Since last year I've found a few useful tools, although I hung up the box wrench I found on a nearby street sign in case the owner wanted it back. Eventually someone claimed it. And a Polar water bottle, Blackburn rear red blinky, a few other useful doodads.
Also found these under a bridge where I stopped to photograph some grafitti. I didn't bring 'em home.

Last summer I found a Husqvarna weed eater. After I finished my ride I went back with the truck and got it. I did post on all available social media that I had it and no one ever claimed it. Lately, a couple of sockets and plenty of ratchet straps.

I've found quite a number of things on the road but the best find was at a time when I really needed it.
We were on a tour and stopped for lunch by a market. I was looking at my bike and said to my wife," I wish I had an 8 mm wrench to adjust my rear fender." As we were sitting there enjoying lunch, I just glanced at the the window sill, and saw a small wrench laying there. It was closer to my wife, so I asked her what size was. She picked it up and proclaimed, "8 mm."

My favorite in the photo was Papa John's flag, too bad there wasn't a hot pizza with it!
I used to be amazed at the number of ice chests, beach chairs, tents, suitcases, etc. that I would see as I drove down local roads (we live near a major beach tourist location). When I took up biking a little over a year ago I figured out why all the big items are on the side of the road as I would find lots of broken bungee cords and ratchet tie downs laying on the road also. If you are going to strap all our belongings on your roof because your car is too small to pack everything inside, at least use decent tie downs instead of the cheapest ones they had at the store.
Found a beat-up cooler full of cold beer recently, all nice bottled brands. I puller all the unbroken bottles I could haul on my bike, left the rest for the next person to stop by. Hikers refer to this as gifts from "trail angels", I think it was more likely a gift from a badly packing tourist.

I found a backpack with a new Apple computer in it. The cheapskate said he was going to give me a reward, but he never did.

Sigh. All I ever see are left shoes, left gloves, unidentifiable metal bits, tire shreds, those thick rubber tiedowns, and at least one crack-pipe. Nothing I would want to touch, let alone take home.
Why are there never any RIGHT shoes or gloves?

About a month ago I found a nice pair of Wayfarer sunglasses. Dark blue frames and tortoise earpieces. I kept 'em!

I was on my daily ride when light reflecting off something in the road made me stop. I had found half of a Trek multi tool, exactly like one I own.
Just to compare it I took mine out of my seat bag and its holster and looked at it. The part like the one I found was missing!
I had never stopped at this location, the main part of my tool was still in its holster. Was it mine, I don't know, all I know is mine is now complete again!

The majority of my miles are on country roads. I guess people around here hold onto their stuff better. Lol. Did find some used scratch off lottery tickets Saturday, no winners of course. My road kill finds are the formely living kind - mammal and reptile. Geez, and you think skunk smells bad when you drive by at 60....
