I am in the best shape of my adult life at 59. I weigh less now than I did in high school. The biggest benefit of cycling for me is how much I love it. I look forward to my early morning ride every day.

A life partner with the same interests, world travel, improved health and fitness, physical achievements beyond what I could have imagined at any younger age, useful knowledge and skills about cycling and bikes, determination, and organisational skills.

Cycling has kept me (reasonably) sane --- is that even possible? LOL...

Seriously, cycling has been keeping my cardio vascular system in shape. I know I posted a while back about my late father and his inactivity after retiring from IBM. I don't want to end up like that! Heck, I can remember back around 1979, maybe 1980, after I had already graduated school, moved away, joined the US Coast Guard, etc... and came home on military leave. In the garage was a matching pair of his & hers Sears Free Spirit 3-speed bikes. My parents said they bought them for short bike rides down the road. I thought that was really cool at the time. However about 3 or 4 months later, again, I came home on military leave over a holiday, and looked in the garage, and the same Free Spirit bikes were still there in the same spot, untouched, and now had a bit of dust on them.

I love scenery and love to get out and ride, even if it's something short like 8 miles, or a longer 30 mile ride. It keeps my lower back stretched out and keeps me healthy. Eventually I will get down a nice, even 200# instead of being 212# or 210# depending on what I eat. Heck, I would love to get down to a trim 190#, but don't if that is possible.

My best friend, fellow musician, fishing buddy ... And eventually my brother in law dropped dead suddenly after 47 years of friendship. 4 years later it's still very much with me. As cycling is such a personal quest it's let me do something on my own... Without mourning him. It's been great on many levels... But especially in helping me regain my personal independence and finding a new focus in my life.
