Craters of the Moon Day

Bellevue to Arco. 63 miles with a few hills. Once again tremendous tailwinds the last 20 miles. Beautiful views all day. Another great day to be riding.

I think we're now in our 3rd loaf of bread. Bagels with peanut butter is a wonderful treat.

Guided tour of the lava fields and a lava tube by a Park Ranger. The previous Park Superintendent insisted on cyclists spending the night in his house when traveling by.

Who is it here on BF.net that is selling the old-school 'tire savers'? Rootboy?

I should think that using a set of those would be necessary when riding in desert areas - not only for stickers/thorns from plants, but also from wires from steel-belted radial wires since they don't get washed off the roadway from rains.

I still have mine that I bought back in the '70s - wore them out/trough a few times in over ~50,000 miles of riding, but formed a new wire from a broken stainless spoke!

Oh, and I'm glad you're taking time to see the sights along the way!

The rear tire still had all its air this morning!!! Sounds like the making of a country song???? I think all these back to back days might just be messing with my brain.

Keep up the reports. I may not post all the time but I am following them. Sounds like a blast!

Is this ride in North Carolina or am I missing something--these images look like somewhere out West?
Beautiful no less!

Riding cross the US. Started in Florence Or and making my way across following Hwy 20. Hope to make it to Boston.

Memories....I have a set of those in "the box". I pulled them off my 1980 Fuji touring bike when I donated it this past spring. Also had a Huret belt driven odometer on that bike....donated that to a BF member who was looking for one.

Nice. Where are you going from there? Is there a link to your planned route?
