FYI a PSA on PSA......understanding PSA better

There are various Prostate Specific Antigen tests and the much discussed PSA test isn't as revealing as many think. From a surviving PCa (Prostate Cancer) individual, please read.

Good for you with taking a pro-active approach. :thumb: :thumb: After all, it is YOUR HEALTH and having as much information available to you as possible allows for informed choices to be made if need be.

I've said this many times. My PSA never went over 2.6. The finger test is how my primary care doc decided that something was wrong. My prostate didn't "feel symmetrical". I was referred to a urologist and he monitored things for almost to a year. At that point he did a prostate MRI and found 6 spots that were suspicious. Using the MRI image and ultrasound he did a biopsy on the 6 spots and all were cancerous. He told me not to put off any decision about surgery or treatment for more that 6 months. It took my wife and I about 5 minutes to make the decision to have the surgery. The cancer was completely removed so neither radiation nor chemo were necessary. :)

The newer PCA3 test is much better than the debatable PSA test.
