New contact from a lapsed contact

Hi all

I used to post fairly frequently when spouse and I lived in the Middle East.

Anyhow, we're moving to Santa Cruz Calif on 17th November. At the very least, I'll be daily on West Cliff bike path, and with luck being a bit more extended in distance and climbs!

Very best wishes to all

Richard

Didi you tell the folks in the SoCal or the NorCal subforum? Not sure where the dividing line for the state is located.

My younger son completed his upper division undergrad work a year ago at UC Santa Cruz. He really liked the area, and I expect you will, as well, Richard. Your friends here will be expecting a full series of reports as you get settled in.

Hi all, and thanks for the warm messages

Jan and Fiets - yup, my sense of timing has always been poor. Since the June British vote and consequent currency change, we can now replace 60% of the roof we could have replaced in May for the same pounds!

We already have a funky cabin there. Previously rented, now not. This winter, we'll swing hammers, rebuild kitchen and bathroom, re-establish ownership, and decide whether we're there for a long or short term.

And buy and ride bikes, and keep you pals in close touch! x

That's how the middle class does it in California -- sweat equity. We have owned two homes, both fixers. I have always enjoyed working on the house, but have not always had enough time to do everything I wanted to right away.

Welcome back, and however much the roof costs, it isn't too bad a location.

Cheers!

Santa Cruz is my heart's home.
For riding you have flat (Hwy 1) and mountains.
Lots of gears are in order to get to the Summit.
I miss the solitude of Zayante Rd & Mt Charlie Rd.
Enjoy.

Craig Calfee is a real gentleman and makes most excellent bikes - single or tandem.
I bought a TetraPro when the factory was in Santa Cruz. It is a favored rider, and still gets occasional upgrades.

wobbly - Henry Cowell State Park is a favorite spot on quiet days.
