New Years cycling resolutions

Yeah, two weeks early, but I decided to be an adult for once and NOT ride for a few weeks post-carpal-tunnel surgery. So, I'm bored.

My resolution - I have a giant pile of unused or underused cycling items - everything from parts to electronics to clothes. It's all getting put to use in 2017. I am going to make the time to install, configure, etc!

Yours?

My perennial cycling resolution is 5000 miles in a year, never attained, mainly due to too busy at work (but I do like my job). This year, with a Christmas vacation, I may reach 3K. But I ride mainly as a year-round commuter of 14 miles one way as often as possible, and extend the commute in nice weather, even for my long (greater than 40 mile) ride on Saturdays.

So a more basic resolution is to keep increasing my efficiency at work opening more opportunities to ride.

I did not make this years goal of 1000 miles. Mostly from being lazy and not wanting to be out in the cold. 2017 is going to be 2000 miles. It's quite doable, I just have to get up off my butt more often.

At this point, I'm not really sure what my goal is going to be for 2017. I'm already over 10,000 for this year and even living in Florida and being retired, that wasn't as easy as I thought it was going to be. More miles for next year? I don't know. I'll be getting my new bike in March so maybe that will motivate me to do more miles next year.

Hopefully 2017 won't have all the surgeries and other appointments that 2016 had. I hope to ride a LOT MORE miles.

To ride my age, (6 month offset) on my birthday. No mater what the weather in 2017.
I turned 57 on Dec 11. Vowed to ride 57 miles on June 11th 2017. Just so happens to be a Sunday. Do that after Church.

As in past years, I resolve to ride as often as I can, as far as I'm comfortable with, and to enjoy each day for what it brings--whether it's a flat tire or finding $100.

2016 provided a chance to return to cycling fitness I last knew in 2012. I also enjoyed growing my vintage steel bike collection.

2017 has a few goals;

4000 miles total
Six gravel events
Six informal century rides

I rode less in 2016 than I have in years, mostly owing to a series of serious illnesses in the family (a couple for me, three for my spouse and the final one for her mother) as well as several unexpected trips out of state to deal with family issues.

I expect to ride even less in 2017, but it's going to be super fun. My not-legally-adopted daughter starts a medical program in July and we get to pick up our three- and four-year-old grand-daughters from pre-school every day and play with them until their dad gets off work. I plan to get my old tandem ready for one to ride stoker while the other gets on a trailer bike.

I also have a large house remodel that I'll be the primary builder of, so there's just not going to be enough time to really ride this year after June. On the bright side, the remodel will include a long-desired sauna, so we expect to enjoy the next winter's rides much more.

No mileage resolution since I ride every chance I get. But - I do resolve to be become even more skilled and intrepid with bike repair. This past year I definitely learned a lot of new stuff, but for 2017 I want to build a set of wheels. I also want to get comfortable servicing my hubs (which will be easy as I learn the wheel building). And, finally, I want to get comfortable pulling my cranks (need to buy some tools) so I can change my own cranks and BB as needed. My son is apparently "surprising" me with a tee shirt he designed: an old lady on a bike with text which says "Wrenching bikes, not backs, since retirement". My spies tell me everything ;-)

Add an early 80s (or close) Spanish or German lightweight.
More saddle time with local BF members.

Oh, there's one. I've always wanted to put together an 80s vintage celeste Bianchi and ride it in the Eroica.

EROICA CALIFORNIA | PASO ROBLES CA | 7-9 APRIL 2017

That would be sweet.

Paso is so close to you, just do it.
But here's one that's more fun in Sept.
A guaranteed BF contingent will be there, it can get goofy at times.
And the rules are not quite so strict = note clipless shoes/80s Look pedals.

I am retiring at the end of January, so my goals will revolve around that. I've been a bike commuter for the past 10 years, so it will be difficult to maintain my mileage at the same level (averaging about 9,000 miles/year over the past five years). My cycling goals in 2017 will be keep cycling as much as possible but have more fun doing it -- more cycling trips, tours, weekenders, loaded tours. I need to thin my bike herd by 1-2 bikes, clean out my garage and cycling gear. I would like to learn how to do more basic bicycle maintenance and repairs. My favorite bike, a Waterford sport tourer, needs a repaint and I might send it back to the factory for that.

I agree with this goal. Normally my overall goal is to ride when I can; my weekly goal being 5 workouts, a combination of running and cycling Oct thru Apr, and cycling May thru Sept. I never know how much I will travel for work, and that travel affects my training for the California Triple Crown doubles.
