Helping out a future BF member...
One of my young neighbors dropped by the ol' garage this afternoon for some mechanical assistance with a "new-to-him" Trek hybrid. We aired up his tires (he was not familiar with Presta valves), adjusted the centerpull brakes, checked the QRs, and restored the previously non-functioning Avocet computer to working order. He went off for a ride with a smile on his face -- that's when I noticed I had one on my face too!

Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.

When I'm out touring it always great to help someone with a problem.
As I have most of the tools, pumps, levers etc I may need.
But as the OP says the smile lasts.....and lasts

Watch out for this. New career in the offing- Bike mechanic for FREE.
Great to help someone out so I suppose the next thing is to take him out on a ride and try and stay with him. As you'r the mechanic- easy enough to put a bit of brake rub in and low pressure in the tyres.

I had the chance to help a young lady with a flat a few weeks ago. She was commuting to and from a temporary job site. Her boyfriend had the car. She didn't have a spare and was trying to patch her tube, but it wasn't going to work for her. I gave her my spare tube, installed it, inflated it with my CO2 (she was amazed) and rode with her until our paths parted. She wanted to pay me for the tube, but that would spoil the Karma. Besides, it had at least 3 patches on it. It all felt good.

I read something the other day that each serious rider influences 7 others to start riding. By giving someone a bike or by helping someone fix up a bike so they can ride leaves two people feeling good.

Way to go! I've helped neighbors and freinds as much as I can. Yup, it feels real good.
