In need of another wheel "FIX"..!
Just back from 95 days in sunny Sri Lanka with lots of riding in the mega hot sun was accomplished so in return, since I have not bought anything bike related yet in 2017, I just ordered me a set of ZIPP 454 NSW Wheelset to add to my fleet of wheels I already do not use..HAH..! I see these just came out and look just lovely..Should have them by friday along with another Trek Emonda SLR8 to slap them on..:)
Anyone else here yet own or tried out these new ZIPP Wheels..? |
ZIPP 454NSW Shipped
Should be here any day now as I await them..! Can you really have to many wheel sets?:thumb:

Congrats on both the trip and the new wheels.
A riding buddy recently bought them, and while they look "different", couldn't really tell the difference in ride with his old 404's. Maybe a placebo effect that makes him enjoy his bike more? As for too many wheelsets, my wife would say, "Yes, you can have too many." :D |

I don't own any aero wheels, since my main interest is challenging myself on hills (lots of nearby 15-20% grades near my home in Los Angeles). I'm sure aero wheels would make a dynamite combination with my Émonda, though, on the flats. But most aero wheels are too heavy (relatively speaking) to interest me. They look great and sound great, though. I just got back from NYC where I rented, as usual, a Canyon with aero wheels. It was was fun to turn those wheels loose on the West End bike path, on stretches of Route 9 (west of the Hudson River) and in Central Park. The hills, though, what there are of them, are tame. I imagine it's the same in Ohio, where you are, as I've been back to parts of the state to visit relatives. Here's how not to have too many wheelsets: A pickup truck plowed into me a couple of months ago as I was riding on the Palos Verdes Peninsula (an awesome location for cycling in the Los Angels area). The crash ruined the front wheel of a super lightweight set of wheels I'd purchased for my own Émonda. Luckily for me, no broken bones. The Émonda didn't fare so well. My replacement Émonda sports a new super-light front wheel. So now I have two sets of new, lightweight Bontrager hoops that came with the two Émondas. (And I have plenty of spare, usable, albeit scratched components from my wrecked bike). So, yes, mpath, I suppose it is possible to have too many wheelsets. ;-) |

Wow, $4k for a set of wheels? I never had a set, so I ordered the Roubaix Pro, which does come with a set (albeit much cheaper, I'm sure). At least for $6,500 I get a bike along with the wheels.
I see you're a Trek fanatic. I'm keeping my Domane 6.2 (fantastic bike!) and was going to order the new SLR, but the Spec came with the cf wheels. I don't think I could go wrong either way, but I have to wait until late August for the 2018 Pro. |

Do NOT provide me with your address 😀. That bike looks EXACTLY my size. And I would absolutely guarantee I'd ride it like I stole it!
|
If you're gonna have fast bikes, you gotta flip that stem and at least look fast.

I am a Trek guy also, but not nearly so much as you. Wanted to get a new Domane but probably ride the Madone a little longer.

Not so much the big spender nowadays, but I lost THREE rear wheels in about 3 weeks ... all different failures:
Easton 90 SLX: hub failure ... the pawls stripped right through the hub) Mavic Ksyrium Elite SL: need a new urethane washer and insert ... haven't fixed that one yet Forte Titan (the cheap commuting wheels): Broken spoke. I suppose I could replace it, but the other spokes are probably on the way out too I bought another Titan to replace the one on the commuting bike, and these (Reynolds Solitude) to replace the Easton's. I'll probably try to fix the Ksyriums. 1560 grams and about $240 a pair. |
If I'm ever fit enough that new carbon wheels and a new carbon bike would be the best thing I could change to go faster, I'll be a happy guy. Right now it is to change how fat I am :-)
