positive reinforcement
 

Her in sw wi, yesterday was grey, windy and the local trail was wet so that a road ride was the choice to make. Both of my road bikes have a bright red blinking light rear mounted and I wore a bright yellow windbreaker. After a short jaunt into the country I was heading back into town when a large pick-up pulled along side. I glanced over thinking it might be someone I knew but didn't recognize the young lady driving. She did, however, give me a big smile and yelled "nice and bright" along with a thumbs up before she pulled away.

Given the number of negative experiences recorded here I thought that this was a nice change of pace.

Nice to get positive encouragement instead of the usual "stuff" that yelled to us.

I've heard similar comments about my multiple lights. I don't use any extremely bright lights but do use more than one, especially on the back. So far I haven't heard any drivers complain about them. But they seem to appreciate being able to see us more clearly at night.

I've never had that many negative experiences. However, I ride at odd hours when traffic is minimal, tend mostly to ride on MUPs. I've gotten more 'nice bike" comments overall though.

On one of my early morning visits to the local YMCA, another member told me he was a retired emergency room surgeon and that my rear light should be brighter. I have since supplemented it with a brighter unit.

I always appreciate getting good feedback. If the light's too bright, it'd be nice to know. If the lights are insufficient, I'd love to hear of that as well.

Can't be too bright, IMO, at least not from the rear or side. Tend to have a couple of bright, obnoxious blinkies and a reflective, dayglo yellow jacket on, so it's fairly hard to miss.


Glad to hear of the good experience. Not everyone gets that.
