The Coed on the Bike...

I was driving past the college yesterday afternoon when a shapely young female rode past me in the other direction on an older road bike. I think I paid more attention to her bicycle.

BlazingPedals 05-02-17 10:45 AM

Is this the lead-in to a joke?

ksryder 05-02-17 10:49 AM

Are you 12?

OldTryGuy 05-02-17 11:20 AM

:foo: What's your point? Sounds like you appreciate older bikes.

When I first saw this, I thought "are you over 75?"

You're hoping your wife sees this aren't you?

This post reminds me that Leg Season starts next Sunday.

I celebrate the nice weather part of the year as a self-proclaimed "Leg Season," when short pants are the usual dress. It starts on the first Sunday in May with the Annual Walk for Hunger, and ends on Columbus Day with the Annual Tufts 10 K Women's Road Race, both attracting thousands of participants. :D

Setting the entire "shapely young female" aspect of your post aside, I always look at a bike first, and then notice who is riding it after - if I get a good enough view of the bike to satisfy my curiosity.

Living in The Springs, you probably see more shapely females than old bikes every day. It's a haven for Olympic hopefuls, or so it's rumored.

rumrunn6 05-02-17 12:52 PM

ah spring!

ptempel 05-02-17 12:56 PM

Spring and Summer here in the city is nice too. Now pick up that jaw! :)

jimincalif 05-02-17 01:12 PM

What bike? I didn't see a bike!

Geez, am I the only one here who got this joke?

canklecat 05-02-17 05:49 PM

Sure feels 1970 all of a sudden.

The joke I was referring to was, "you know you're a cyclist when..."

Yes, we do!

Machka 05-02-17 11:06 PM

"Coed" ... now there's an archaic term!!!

GeneO 05-02-17 11:39 PM

I pay more attention to shapely new bikes than old females riding them.

LOL

Following on what Dave!24 said and leaving aside the d.o.m. component of this thread, I definitely ogle any bike that goes by, just to check out what it is.

And speaking of which, today on the trail there was a guy stopped by the side fiddling with a bike, which of course I ogled. I maybe was thinking about offering some help. But it was the damnedest thing I've seen in I don't know when. It had separate drive trains (and chains) on the left and right of the rear wheel. The right looked like it was attached to a chain ring and the pedals, and the left, perhaps to a motor mounted, um, I don't know where? A DIY ebike, I guess? I wish I had stopped and taken a picture. Certainly it was pointless to offer help - I have no idea what to do with a "bicycle" like that.

KenR 05-03-17 08:26 AM

I might have noticed the bike first, but once I see the lovely female, it would have been:
"What bike? I don't see a bike!"

OldsCOOL 05-03-17 08:34 AM

"Coed"? Did I just make a time-travel trip to the 70's??

Daspydyr 05-03-17 10:51 AM

Yeah, I suffer from that aging ailment as well.

Then again, as the father of 5 daughters I have learned to view females differently. They need protection from old guys like me.

Then again, I live in Las Vegas and show girls ride bikes a lot to keep their butts and legs toned. Sheesh that can be distracting.

Then again I may suffer from ADHD. squirrel.....bike.....babe....

Wheever 05-03-17 01:18 PM

I have a related problem: I look at bikes so intently as they go by that I often worry that the person riding them will think I'm checking *them* out, rather than the bike!
