This Polar strap:
https://www.heartratemonitorsusa.com...nt=11309945414
works with all snap-on transmitters, Polar, ANT+, whatever. They all have the same snap spacing.
This is a strap with a snap-on Garmin transmitter:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BI9X1QM/
This is a very good strap, never had a problem with it. Take the transmitter off to wash the strap. For some reason this strap seems to get rid of jersey flap readings. Since you don't have a snap-on transmitter, your transmitter must have been integral with the strap. So throw it away and buy this one.
Remember that you'll have to re-pair the new transmitter with your receiver(s).

I had a similar problem with my chest strap reading high intermittently last year, but I knew my elastic strap was beginning to lose its elasticity so I ignored it. This year I began to use a spare strap I had, but got similar (erroneous high) readings so I just purchased a Scosche Rhythm+ optical HRM to compare with the chest strap. I first tried on my forearm, but it the readings were low, so I moved it to the inside of my bicep, and now it reads great. I compared the two sensors, each one connected to a separate VDO Z2 with pc link computer. I had the arm band sensor linked to the VDO computer on a wrist strap and the chest strap sensor was linked to the VDO computer mounted on my stem. As usual the chest strap fluctuated. One reading went to 0, then up to around 200 for the next 3 minutes. During the same time the wrist strap averaged around 150 bpm. Both computers were set on 10 second scan intervals. The wrist strap did read a little low for the first 2-3 minutes though, but after that the two were very close. I want to pick up some gel to see of that helps, but it worked fine for 5 years without it, just wetting it with water. I'll try to attach a spreadsheet showing the comparison.

i stay away from wrist straps and fitness trackers for hr. they generally work off of an optical sensor that looks at the blood flow in your wrist. the are subject to lag due to the blood having to be pumped down to the arm to note the change and are less accurate than a chest strap with electrical connectors. I started using gel, found it on amazon cheap, made a huge difference.

I've had the Mio Velo for a few months now and I'm not completely happy with it. When it works, it works OK; but battery life sucks: I have to recharge between 2-hour rides or it'll die, and the only reliable way to know if it's charged sufficiently is after the fact, i.e. if it lasts for the whole ride, it was charged. And the battery apparently loses its charge if you don't use it relatively soon. The only display is a red/green LED, and I have a red/green shade blindness. So if it turns on, it *might* be charged. Or it might die in 20 minutes. Taking it on a multi-day ride of 70-80 miles per day would be a waste of baggage space.
I'll probably be looking for some other wrist-based HR pickup next spring.

Polar just came out with an optical sensor.
I don't know anything about it. Just pointing it out.

I have had excellent luck with my Mio Alpha. I've had it for a couple of years and am completely satisfied with its performance. It is very accurate (I have checked it against manual counts, equipment in our hospital's PT department and our ambulance heart monitor), links easily to my phone apps (Strava, Ride with GPS and Wahoo), keeps a charge a long time (continuous monitoring on many 8+ hour rides, keeps a charge for several days when not in monitoring mode), is comfortable to wear and durable (many cold and wet rides). No chest strap to worry about and looks similar to many sports watches. I sometimes wear it as my regular watch. If I have a few days off and plan several longer rides I'll put it on the charger each night and have never had a problem. When I'm doing shorter rides, I often leave it off the charger for 2-3 days at a time. It charges fully in a couple of hours from one-bar status.
The one pictured is a model newer than mine and looks almost identical, except mine has a black bezel instead of purple. Retail $80-100. The only thing I would mention is that the strap is rather short. I have a medium sized wrist and I'm on the second to the last set of holes. Anyone with a large wrist might not be able to use it and I don't seen any strap length options on their website.
