Heh. I see it too often. Last time I did I told the guy that he needed a new pair of shorts. He was actually appreciative. Some people honestly don't realize it, but others are simply cheapskates.
Back in 2002, during the first day of my first ever Cycle Oregon, a woman I had never seen before passed me. As she did, she said something like. "Wow. You must have had those shorts for a long time." She was correct, but I couldn't figure out how she could know that. After about a minute it dawned on me. After I finished the day's ride, showered and changed, I stretched the back of my shorts to inspect them. Into the trash they went. |

According to my Brit wife, 1 stone = 14 lbs. (What a stupid unit.)
So 8 stone = 112 lbs. 8 stone = 1 cwt 20 stone = 1 ton |

Gets worse:
8 stone = 1 cwt 20 stone = 1 ton 20x14 = 280lbs I think you should have put "cwt" or "hundredweight": 20 x 112 = 2,240lbs, which is an imperial ton. Fortunately, I can remembers these things. |

In a word, knees. A lot of us are dyed-in-the-wool runners who can't run anymore. Thank god for cycling.., and MSM.

I completely disagree with Chris Hoy. I am 62 in 6 weeks and have ridden 3000 miles so far this year. I wear bike shorts and full kit. Not flashy colors and team kit, but understated and comfortable, form fitting stuff.
I don't wear it because I look good. Most people I run into while riding underestimate my age by 10 years and more and are suprised to hear how old I am. I think I owe that partly to the fact that I do ride alot. I dont' see it. I see my physical flaws and know, realisticly, I don't look that good. But on a 40 or 50 mile day I want to feel good and make it to the end of the ride. So I wear bike specific gear. However, I don't stop at coffee shops (I refuse to pay 5 bucks for coffee) or go shopping while riding. I have on occasion, stopped in a city park and taken a nap in the grass. I ride over to my folks assisted-living retirement home, filled with people older than me and get a large number of dubious compliments from older folks that most likely can't see straight or clearly anyway. I guess what I'm trying to say is that bike specific clothing and "lycra" (my brothers call it "women's underwear") make the bike much more comfortable and Chris Hoy isn't going to change my mind. |
Most of us spent 1st 40 years of life enjoying ALL the good things in life and damaging our body. Next 40 is spent spent trying to repair or minimize the damage. Cycling in comfort and style is part of the program.

60 years old and ride about 1600 miles a year. Do I wear cycling shorts? Absolutely! Do I wear a cycling shirt? Absolutely! I wear cycling shoes and a helmet too! Not sure where middle age ends and old guy begins though.

I think I've mastered the comfort thing. Still failing badly at the style bit. |
These legs are 50 years old and still have a lot of mile left in them. They're more comfortable in bib shorts.

There's a point where 3/4 length tights are tasteful. They also come as bib-tights.:roflmao2::roflmao2:

J. There are three kinds of people in this world: 1. Those that make things happen. 2. Those that watch things happen. 3. Those that wonder what happened. The older I get, the more I find myself in the third category. |
Fourth category ... not sure what has happened, not sure what will happen, no clue what is happening.
