Great Fall day !

Today was a pretty close to perfect Fall day to get out and ride. I've always been a person who loves hot humid weather, but with such a rainy year I'll take anything with some sun. So today after work it was off for 2 1/2 fun filled hours playing in my back yard.

If we didn't get a record high temp today, we sure came close. So I managed one last evening club ride for the year. Tomorrow we're back to rain and falling temps.

Nice ride! Here, too, it felt like the first sunny warm day in a while (dirty little secret about foliage season in VT is it can be one rainy day after another). Had to do some work in Montpelier & decided to drive only part way there and ride the remaining 12 miles on back roads, then race the setting sun back to the car at the end of the day. One more warm sunny day today then it’s back to rain.

My granddaughter was gone with her parents, my wife went to visit her sisters. These stars in rare alignment, I planned and prep'ed a two day tour.

Of course the rain came down in buckets both days.

Nice ride!!

54° & winds 30 mph, gusts to 40 here today.
it blew most of the leaves away :)
warmer than the norm for Oct.
Not as bad as Florida

It wouldn't be so bad if it was only one day of rain here or there, but when we get rain this year it's for days at a time.

As you know lots of wet days this year, and trails are still quite soft. I like to do ride by video's when I'm out in the woods. Thanks !

80 degrees with 80% humidity here, but that is better than rain & fog. I can't wait for this weekend when the high temps. will be in the 50's. Perfect.

StarBiker 10-10-18 08:29 PM

Kiss the 80's, and most likely the upper 70's goodbye after Thursday. Boy this weather pattern for early fall has sucked!

BlazingPedals 10-11-18 05:43 AM

Yep. Who would want to do a ride to a cider mill on an 80F day??? It's gotta be tights weather for that!

Helderberg 10-11-18 07:25 AM

We are waiting on the remnants of Hurricane Michael, Tropical storm to us, so no riding to day. This weekend Fall is supposed to arrive finally and I can get out without the 85* weather and that I am looking forward to. Your ride looks like a lot of fun.
Frank.

the leaves around my house haven't turned yet. some have fallen, but we are a long way from "late" fall / early winter. meaning even if some wind storms move thru, those leaves are going anywhere yet

Hondo Gravel 10-11-18 01:43 PM

September was a record rainfall month here. Great video! You have some awesome trails nearby.

Thanks ! This has been the rainiest year that I can remember. This is my first year spending more time on the trails than the road, and I'm having a blast. The best part is all this fun is in my backyard, it takes maybe 2 minutes from my doorstep to the trails.

Except when we get hot, dry Santa Ana winds from the desert, fall is definitely the best season in southern California, as well. (Yes, we do have seasons, albeit more subtle than elsewhere.) Perfect weather for outdoor activities, with nighttime lows in the low 60s and daytime highs around 70F/21C, some cloud cover.

My fall was a tad different.
Having (nearly) got over a Gym Bug (Her term, not mine) I headed for the outdoor race track alongside the gym, down the one way lane, wrong way of course, and into a metal barrier which the wind conveniently blew in my direction in order to teach me the error of my ways . . . down I went.
I got lucky; no damage to me or the bike. But that racetrack is sheltered from the wild winds we have right now and of course, a real bike takes some beating.
The racetrack is popular with walkers, and their dogs. . . .
