with no snow on the horizon, I'm contemplating taking the road bike out again. riding the mountain bike, w studded tires, but no ice or snow, is getting a little boring
|
I've found that my blood thinners (after heart attack) have increased my intolerance to cold. Unless it's all in my mind, but I don't think so. And at 134lbs I just don't' have a lot of fat layers to help much.

DaveQ24, where do you live? Super short cold spell and few 100 degree summer days sounds ideal. I am in Michigan and winter is long and crappy. Summers are A-OK.

Same place as you, MI, I’m in Metro Detroit. Winters - don’t know what to think anymore - weird weather - warmer here the past 2 weeks than almost any day last April. Summers are generally good - on average, I’d say I turn on the AC 10 days a year. |

Must be the season for “I just dont want to ride in the cold/snow anymore”. Then I get to thinking about having good numbers on the next physical and blood draw numbers. |

Tons of ice on the trails in my neck of the woods, no way I can go without the studded tires. So the 29 plus is on the shelf, and the fat bike is playing on the trails right now.

In between storms in Southern California I feel guilty posting anything on this subject, but I guess it is relative to what you're used to. Upper 40's is cold to me . A great ride though and glad to be here on such a nice day. We are getting much needed rain and cold(for us) weather. |
Jealous of all of you that got out last weekend. Sunday would have been a good day to take my old Trek with the studded tires out but I am way behind on a work project so was stuck indoors. This weekend's forecast has us in the heaviest snowfall zone so if I get outside it will likely be on my snowshoes, which actually would make me happy as they have been collecting dust since last winter.

Dressing appropriately is key.
I love riding in the winter. Just commuted to work this morning in 22°F with a wind-chill/Real Feel® of 16°F. It's brisk, it's invigorating, it makes me feel alive. But I also like riding in 100°F heat ...if it's a dry heat. The thing I hate -- and this hasn't changed as I get older -- is humidity. |
Yesterday was nice , temperature about 30F, no wind, roads clean and dry with no salt. However, the low sun is potentially blinding for drivers. Today it might get up to 40F. I prefer a milky sky for safety.
