Meeting Challenges

This news item caught my attention because I worked with a man who was in the same situation as the father in the story. My work mate was from Poland and had been taken prisoner by Germans to a forced labor camp. He lived in a hole in the ground for a long period of time. Many young men from his village died in the harsh conditions. He survived and eventually made his way to the US where I came to know him and a bit of his history.

The story in the link is very similar; a man captured and taken prisoner to a forced labor camp where many died. The difference is that the man in the link left behind papers and letters documenting the story in much more detail. These type of stories are valuable in that they show us that sometimes in life the way through is to persist in spite of the odds as many do during deadly conflicts. I've also read many stories of survival at sea and the same lesson holds. Those that survive persist in surviving.
