I'm 51 and had a small number of cars, mostly for financial reasons. The first car I owned was when I was in my 20s because I was a parent. My list is very boring:

198x Olds Cutlass (AKA gutless)
1993 Saturn - I put 200,000 that car before selling (also first car I bought new)
199x Saturn mid-sized wagon (terrible car)
198x VW Jetta (deathtrap)
2002 Saturn 3-door 'sports car' - I liked that for being affordable and long lasting
2006 Volvo XC70 - I just sold it to my mom since her car died
I don't have a car right now.

I don't include cars that belongs to parents that I used, those were never 'my' car, I just borrowed them when I needed to go somewhere.

OTOH Frau Toad has had many more cars, she like her cars and turns them over often. I do drive them, but they are not "my cars" ... I'd be happy to see her spend less on cars, but I pick my battles.

Additionally, I did buy a car for my daughter when she was a teenager. She's more like her dad than her mom, that car is the only car that she's ever 'owned' and she's nearly 30, she doesn't have her own car today.

EDIT: I forgot about the VW Jetta I had for a couple years.

Had a 73 V6 Capri that I drove into the ground. I too loved that car.

I put timing gears on a bunch of those things. The cam gear was Bakelight, or some such composite, on the outer diameter and they would break apart and fall into the oil pan. Never wanting to remove the oil pan I made a scoop to remove the pieces from the pan and never had a problem with doing that.

Mine gave up the ghost when some transmission part was no longer available (supposedly back in ‘82). Also compression was going and needed a complete rebuild costing more than the car was worth. Was perpetually repairing interior bits but didn’t mind because the car was a blast to drive. Had a custom exhaust so it made a nice roar on acceleration. Love driving and the acceleration. Still miss that car.

Was yours a stickshift? Those were fun to drive. Probably some German transmission. I wanted to buy a Jeep pickup years ago when it was traded in with a bad transmission. I checked into buying a trans and it was waay more than the truck was worth.

Yes it was a 4 speed German manual. If a car ever needed a 5th gear, that was it. Sad about your Jeep. Buying a used tranny is such a crapshoot unless it comes with a warranty

Cool pic! Yeah I forgot 5 speeds didn't really catch on until later. I didn't buy the Jeep after I found out how much it was for a trans. Pretty sure it was a German deal, too

Cars: 7. Bikes: 9. Three bikes got stolen and replaced with same model so technically 12 different bikes.

First four bikes were Schwinns, then in order I had Specialized Hardrock, Bridgestone XO-1, Trek 6500, Lemond Zurich, Specialized Roubaix.

Yup! One in high school lock cut, one in college forgot to lock, one stolen in a house burglary (took VCR and rode off on bike - neighbor saw). One of my kids bikes also got stolen from our garage a few years ago.

Newbie here. Long time car nut (14 to 52 now). It would take me hours to remember all the cars I've owned or counted as owned since I was responsible for keeping them going. Not many bikes since I left them behind when I got into cars but now I'm getting back into them because hopefully it'll get the rest of the family active.

Current cars are: 1996 Miata, 2009 RX-8 and 2003 Ram 1500 Quad Cab 4X4 for me and a 2018 Mazda 6 for my wife.
Bikes have all been acquired in the past few weeks.
Current bike for me is a 2013 Diamondback Response XE (I know it's considered obsolete tech by some but it'll do fine for my purposes).
My wife has about a year old Schwinn GTX 3 hybrid which caught her eye because it was purple and an early 2000s Specialzed Vita that she's thinking about making our daughter's
My son has a Wal-Mart Mongoose full suspension that was given to him which is what kicked off this latest madness.

I'm not a guy, but I'm in my 50s. The guys in my family aren't into cars or how flashy or new they are. My dad, my brothers, my husband. Even my extended family, I can't think of one that is "into" cars. Cars are transportation, that's it.

And my husband was a mechanic, but it was a job not a hobby. We had one vehicle between us for 18 years (RIP Betsy, he still loves you... ha ha). We owned many bikes during those years, though, and during different periods commuted by bike. Having a kid meant a bit more driving and a bit less riding, but we still only had one car.

My older bro had a Capri 1600 ('71, I think?), and a buddy of mine had the 2000. Both awesome cars that lasted a long time. Things I remember:

The 1600 had a close ratio manual transmission.
Headlight switch would burn up easily.
Odd (and good) placement of the gas tank behind the back seat.

I think the Capri had a lot in common with the Pinto. My father had one of the early 1600 Pintos with manual trans. It was parked in front of their house and a kid in a 55 Chevy hit it hard enough to knock it 2 houses down the block. The fuel tank did not leak even thought the car was demolished.

I don't think they ever put the V6 in the Pinto but they did put it in the Bobcat. Pretty sure that was the same as the Capri 2.8L V6.

The one car I continue to regret parting with was a 1967 (?) Honda S600. I bought it for $350. Used it for a summer and asked my mother to sell it for what I paid - which she did. Now I see Jay Leno suggesting they could well be in the price range of classic Porches I.e. $250,000! Not only that, it was a quirky, fun car to drive with its tiny engine, 4 carbs and chain drive.
