On this morning’s group ride. No one saw when he picked it up. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that happen riding on paved roads.

One of those things one can't do again no matter how hard one tries. Not that any will really want to try!
I once stopped and found a spider's web of tire sealant all over my rear wheel. I don't use tubeless tires or sealant and didn't remember following on anyone's wheel during that solo ride.
