Maybe time to try electric assist.

Seeking any experiences with Orbea.
Especially the road bike model Gain. Which I like because of the clean (no external cables) front end on the lesser models.

Sorry but just an observation. I wanted to look at Orbea but there was nothing to look at in my area. The only road E-bikes I could find was a lone Treak ALR model some 40 miles away. I went over and took a test ride and bought it.

What you are going to find is that availability is extremely limited. That was in March. There is a large Specialized dealer in my area and right after I bought the Trek, they got a shipment in of road E-bikes. I had previously test ridden one of them a few months prior but they were sold out back in March too.

Long story short, I opted for the Trek since it was available. The top speed for assist is lower than the Specialized but it works really well for me. Trek has a removeable battery that is on the underside of the down tube and it does not stick out like a tumor. Other manufacturers have the battery inside the down tube like Specialized. Now that I have this Trek, it makes more sense to me to have it removable. A bit more of a hassle but in the long run, easier to replace the battery if I need to and then if Fazua upgrades, mine is an easy swap and I do not have to take it to the shop and have by bottom bracket removed.

To be fair, I liked the looks of the Orbea too, but there is just so limited quantities of all these bikes it is really frustrating. As for riding, I am 67 and ride strictly road. It has been a life saver for me and I only use the lowest setting for assist but it does help quite a bit overall.

Have fun with your research but be open to another model due to availability.

The idea behind 'e', at this time, is that it would definitely get me out more in the winter months. But an indoor set-up is cheaper.

I'm actually considering one myself. It just seems like such a big step but people I know are doing it. One friend I ride with was told by his doctor to stop riding a regular bike due to heart issues. He now rides a Specialized Turbo Creo.

Two weeks ago one of the younger super strong women told me she wished I would get an e-bike because she missed riding with me since I have slowed due to my own physical issues. I thought that was sweet.

After riding for so long it will be like giving up a piece of myself. Or something like that.

Senior opinions occasionally have a lot in common with my 70yo needs. As opposed to, from those with no background or experience of familiarity.

I’m only 64 and sad when motor bikes are perceived as bicycles because we are older and weaker by the day. Maybe merge ebike sub forum with 50+😢

I'm 71. Couple of brain surgeries and double cancer survivor. And try to ride 100mi/wk in Cascade foothills for 8-9mo/year. The other 3-4 months the goal is to ski and ride occasionally with no mileage ambitions. If assisted pedaling inspires me to ride and allows me to climb the road home - then I'm happy as a pig in shat to keep pedaling with the intensity needed to survive on the roads.

I've crashed on enough motorcycles (many decades ago) to know the difference between types of 'bikes'. Old folks with mental flexibility and experiential knowledge rule.

I don't have an Orbea but a Pinarello Dyodo which uses the same motor and system as the Orbea.I got it on line about a year ago and ride it on longer and hillier days. I still ride my analog bikes trading back and forth between them. I don't want the analog bikes to get jealous. I love it. At 78 I just don't have the strength to ride like I used to 10 years ago. I have had zero issues with the bike. Sure helps on those 5 to 7 degree hills I was struggling up. I use the lightest assist I need to maintain my pace. I still put in an effort by not relying on the assist unless I come to a harder section but after I get back on flatter roads I go to less assist.

Do you notice the additional weight of your eBike while riding?

Didn't really feel a weight difference. The ebike is only 8 pounds heavier than my other bikes. I often ride without assist when I'm on a long stretch of road flat road.

I only own one bike under 20pounds, barely. Most probably 24-28 when ready for the road. Not concerned too much about weight in the category of ebikes i am searching.

I don't think Ribble is shipping to USA.

@macd55 - I see Pinarello switched to a different tech for their current e-bike.

When I bought the Pinarello it was an NOS 2019. Found it new at Competitive Cyclist in Colorodo.

To close out this thread ....
And now awaiting new experiences.

Never really ridden an e-bike - for more a few minutes.
Never ridden a bike with 'new' Shimano components - only a vintage bike with downtube shifters
Never ridden a bike with electronic shifting

So even a 2020 model on close-out is new, new, new to me.


Now waiting about 10 days for delivery.

I passed on a 2022 model for the same price - with aluminum frame (instead of carbon), and Tiagra 10spd (instead of Ultegra Di2 11spd). Motor and battery are the same.
