Ten years ago today, I was watching the TdF, and I thought, 'I used to enjoy riding. Why did I stop? I wonder if I'd enjoy riding again.'

I thought about why I stopped and realized a friend put a ew seat on my bike; it was taller than my old seat, so I felt unsteady on the bike. I lowered the seat, and took my first ride in 11 years.

Today I watched the TdF a bit but got my butt onto my bike much earlier than usual to avoid the rain that was predicted for my usual riding times. I skipped the 2nd half of today's stage (I also skipped the 1st 2 hours - I'm not a morning person) and rode 25 miles in hot, humid weather. I'd like to have seen the stage, but the stage was only 'interesting', and the ride was joyful, as usual.

I've gathered lots of info from BF that has helped me get enjoyment from riding. Thanks to the folks who respond to posts, and thanks to the mods who tamp down the most egregious incivility.

And 'congratulations' to all who rode today.

Today the TDF was exciting but I missed a big chunk in order to get out in the high 90's heat and very high humidity to do a 22 mile ride. "Joyful is a good way to describe it. Cycling is fun, exciting, healthy, and many more things, but more than anything it is joyful.

There really is only one thing that matters. Are you doing something that gives you joy and is good for your health?

Ten years ago, I was 55, and doubted I'd live another ten. Then I got hip replacements, and started riding again seriously, during the pandemic.

So far, so good!
