The day is young. Ride your age, in miles vs them killy things. 😏. Ride to the sea and watch the waves.

It's about 1:30 PM and 102 F outside. I rode almost a whole mile this morning when it was still just 93 F and spent all of my last $17.40 on some basic groceries. It was deadly fun.

Coast...it's all downhill from here.

(just kidding, although I did have to lower the gearing on my bikes to placate my knees)

You have at least 10 years before things really start to go downhill. Enjoy!

I found turning 50 to be the hardest. At 30 I think I was still eager to be a "real adult". It kind of bothered me when I turned 40, but not really. 50 hit me really hard. By the time I turned 60, it was no big deal again. Is it resignation, maturity, wisdom now? I'm not sure. But at 50....there's just something about the reality of that time of life.

Amazon "Fast After 50". I've been following Joe's advice since I was 45.

What you should do is pay no attention to the posters who tell you what "We" are supposed to do upon reaching 50 or any other arbitrary point in life. This includes all gratuitous advice related to how, when, where or why you should or should not ride your bicycle.

Do what feels right for you, there is no need to crowdsource advice from strangers about what you should do, ever.

I didn't get the idea that the OP was asking for advice. More like a rumination....

True; but that didn't/won't stop the usual suspects from giving the same old, same old BF 50+ advice about what "We" should do to ride a bicycle properly as they do.

got it.

It also hasn't stopped the "I'm pretending this isn't advice" advice.

If you haven't already, this is an opportunity to begin the ride your age tradition, though you might want to wait for survivable temps. Recruit some friends and have a little celebration. Each year you can lament how much harder it was than the year before. If you are still riding at 70, take a bow and switch to km!

And it obviously won't stop you from your usual complaints.

I just turned 50 last week. But now suddenly I appear to.be 55! The clock seems to have sped up this decade, which is a bit of a worry. Good news is I’m still feeling much the same.

Happy birthday and enjoy your 6th decade!

Wait until you get a good deal older, Pete. There's a whole personality inside me that's still 22 or 23, and monopolizes my thinking. Meanwhile, my back is aching from a road trip I just came back from.

And the 22 year old is telling me not to end a sentence with a preposition....

Having spent the first 3 months of this year in either a hospital or a rehab facility, during which time I turned 58, I have to take issue with that assertion.
