Geezer Back In The Saddle

Been down for 6 months. My wife had back surgery and a 6 month recovery. For me that means no bike ridding due to the risk of injury. So today my first ride in six months. It was very hard. Not the ride but the wait. I saw all those summer and fall days go by like an arthritic porch dog watching the horizon and letting out a mournful howl at dusk as another day went by, without a ride So today's first ride! Yeah!

Dusted off the Peugeot P6. Pumped up the tiers. Went though my Pre-Flight Check List. And off I go.
At the first hill... WHAT? Is my tire rubbing against my chain stay? Am I in the right gear? Are my brake pads dragging?
RATS! Its me!
YIKES,
Its me, and my weak arse!

Oh Well... Got a ride in... Short one but a ride just the same.
I am sure youse guys understand.
Happy Happy, Joy JOY!
Looking forward to tomorrows ride...

Every journey starts with that first step. This, coming from another geezer, who went maybe ten years (or more?) between rides... more than once too.

But you're in TEXAS so you ought to have more opportunities to ride (outdoors) than I will the next few weeks. So keep at it!

Those hills will become easier with time and practice.

That has to feel great!
Well done, and I know that feeling, looking around behind because that rear tire must be flat 😜

To be sure I could not have asked for a better day. It was 72°F with winds out of the south sweeping 180 miles from the gulf coast and still having its lingering smell...

What you get in Wisconsin is similar to here, if not slightly warmer, and depending on how close you are to the lake, wetter.
It's actually "do-able" here, without studs- on a MTB with "semi-cruiser/commuter" tires, as long as you are willing to

A.) Dress for it....

B.) Gear down and...

C.) Slow down.

It takes a bit of patience, and more importantly, safety care, to do so.
Be prepared to "pole foot" it through the tighter turns.

Yeah, I s'pose so. Still, approaching 76 (and still recovering from somekinda respiratory bug caught me nappin' a week back) the idea has less appeal than simply climbing aboard one of my two road bikes whilst they're embraced by the Wahoo's rig & flywheel for riding some 'vitrual' routes anywhere else but here in Wisconsin.

That bug's left me almost ready to return to my virtual trainer 'world', abandoned once I started coughing up carp w/ago Monday.

Were I willing to keep the Kona, it'd be my first choice for such activities pretty much as-it-sits now inna basement, waiting for spring and a For Sale ad in maybe the local Craigslitst or FB Marketplace... but thanks for the thought.

You go ahead....

Afraid to ask how old one needs to be, to be considered a “geezer”? Hopefully over 90…

According to Merriam-Webster, a geezer need not be old.

"an odd, eccentric, or unreasonable person"

That definition seems to cover most of the BF members.
