Bunion
 

Hi all. I am developing a bunion. I plan to see a doctor (podiatrist? Orthopedist?) soon to address this before it becomes painful and prevents me from riding. I read about Lapiplasty and was wondering if anyone knows anything about this. Any info/experience with this or any other experience would greatly be appreciated. Thanks

If it were me I would see an orthopedic foot specialist (M.D.) that is board certified. I would mess around with a podiatrist. I had unrelated foot surgery by an MD with zero regrets, except recovery was definitely longer than 6-8 weeds (no complications). It was more like 6 to 8 months - which is typical according to my daughter in law who is a surgeon (not feet).

Bunions are usually caused by a too small toe box pushing the big toe over and causing the joint to rub against the shoe. Make sure your toe box is wide enough, you can also put a pad between your big toe and the next toe to push your big toe out a little, and a donut pad at the joint to keep pressure off of it. These are all the non-surgical methods used first, of course it depends on how bad the bunion is.
