I gotta buy new cycling socks. Less pale skin to expose. :P

Huh? What socks are in if cotton, wool and synthetic are out? Or are all of yours just too short as are mine? Mine are below the UCI requirements. But I think some are going for taller still.

You are out in the area of the country were trends tend to happen first. So give us more clues!

Here is a clue for those without any - "Trend for those in the know" is no socks, all the better for ease in the important goal of touching toes whenever a need arises to demonstrate physical prowess to other clueless trend setters.

The only Boa I own = doesn't have anything to do with my shoes.

I think I got that same e-mail recently touting some special socks for bicyclists.

I wear the same Darn Tough wool socks I wear daily year-round. Yet to feel I'm losing anything in the doing.

No, I just keep using the (exact) same stuff I've had for 10+ years.

No,I miss though 1970s cars when I was a kid. My grandparent’s 1971 Buick was a boat it could actually pull a boat. I miss the rabbit ears and only having 3 channels and maybe 4 with PBS. The local rock station was the lifeline to us young rockers. We ate and drank whatever we wanted high caffeine Nehi Red and nobody was fat because we ran like horses.

I don't miss the balloon tires, and a bike that was a heavy single speed I had to push up many hills.

I woke up in those after my aortic valve replacement at age 25. I was like WTH.

Gotta save those WATTS... us geezers are typically WATTally challenged, $60 for some "free" watts, watts not to like?

I get it if one needs to deal with varicose veins, but otherwise I ride in what I have... I still have a bunch of quarter socks, and they is good...
Have some longer crew & crew+ which come out in the cold weather, and fit nicely under the leg warmers...

Being a victim of fashion can be expensive...

I'm glad to know that since i went 10sp in 2001 - in the intervening quarter-century - the industry has only added 2 (or 3) cogs to a cassette. So - not too far behind the times. :)

Meh, fashion can pound sand as far as I am concerned. When I was a little, little kid, my great grandmother - who was very old at the time - called me to her bedside and said, "John, always be yourself. Unless you can be a unicorn. Then always be a unicorn." And I have happily lived my years following that advice (and garnering a lot of laughs for some reason).

Cotton over-the-ankle socks for me. White, no fancy colors. Cabled friction shifters, cabled rim brakes, only 9 speeds on my RDs and 2 on the FDs. Exception is the single speed bicycle. Flat pedals ridden with court shoes. Flat handlebars, no drops. And all bicycle have frames made of metal (steel or aluminum), no carbon fiber or bamboo. I'm just your average proud luddite on a bicycle.

I have a TV antenna on the roof to watch broadcast TV;
I drive a car with a 5-speed manual transmission;
I have a house with no air conditioning;
I've got to dishwashers, my left hand and my right hand.

Generally, for me, cycling is not meant as a fashion statement. I wear socks, and other gear, that is functional before fashionable, and that I’m comfortable with.

No joke - cycling socks are cheaper and better than generic socks. I bought about 100 pairs of neon cycling socks last year from one of the sites for $0.25 a pair. Gave a bunch away. Usually not that affordable, but something is always on clearance. My non-neon ones were more like $1 per pair.

I believe his Amish sensibility - hangs out on bicycle forums and doesn't even use grammar check.

Guess I'm way behind the times. My road bike is 20 years old, mtn.bike is 28 years old, same as my pickup truck. Likely have t-shirts older than some riders on this site! Guess being "behind the times" doesn't bother me much!

True. I just type a response, give it a quick read, then post it. When I was employed I'd type something, do something else for a bit before proofreading, then update & post. These days I rely too much on Co-Pilot and its pitiful grammar, spell checking, and thesaurus functions. I do see a few other mistakes, too.

I gather that taller cycling socks are popular? I wear wool socks in winter when it’s necessary but otherwise don’t wear socks for cycling (or running, walking, strength work, or everyday activities).

I cycle (and run) in minimal shoes and they are generally finished inside such that socks are not needed to feel comfortable. Most socks are constrictive and bad for your feet, which you will really notice if you switch to minimal shoes. Most shoes are constrictive and bad for your feet, so you don’t really notice the socks until you fix the shoes.
