A Few Pics from today's Polar Bear Ride
We had our annual "Polar Bear" ride today. I guess the only reason it can qualify for a Polar Bear ride is because it is in early January. While it was pretty breezy, the temperature had to be close to 60 in NC. The weather brought out a nice size group of people that just enjoy riding. I would guess there were probably close to 200 riders out enjoying the really nice weather.
After doing 100+ miles yesterday, all I wanted to do today was just do an "easy" ride. That mindset lasted just about as long as I was in the parking lot. When we got started I was surprised at how good my legs felt so I went ahead and rode with the front group for a lot of the ride. I was able to get in almost 150 miles this weekend which is pretty good for me for January. Let's see, with 185 miles in the first week this year I'm ahead of my pace to meet my target for the year!!
In the picture "Bill and John"-Bill is a good cycling friend and John is my brother. While he is much younger than me, he has been cycling for a lot longer and has been my cycling mentor. It's really good to have him back on the road after being hit by a car and breaking his hip last year.
I wanted to get a picture of the group while we were riding but the pack was just too quick and jumpy to try and free up a hand.

Close to 60 in January -- on a weekend day yet -- is a blessing. Colorful group and it sounds like a great Sunday ride. Kudo's to you after just doing 100 the day before.
Weather was similar here, but I didn't even venture out of the house. Watched movies all afternoon with the Mrs.

Super.... wish I could have joined you!
We do a Polar Bear Swim each year. A quick dip in the Atlantic Ocean to cleanse the spirit and begin the New Year.
This is me.... before making my dive in. And yes, I left the fur and Uggs behind.
Happy New Year! Great ride!
