Last new bike I will buy!

Was at my LBS Monday and got a Trek 1.2 Pilot. I was just browsing and the bike was priced incorrectly the salesman was telling me how much better a bike it was than the 1000. He left and when he returned told me the bike was priced wrong and was actually $900, not $449 which was on the tag. However since it was their mistake I could have it at dealers cost of $570, I rode it and bought it. I went there with no intention of buying but I couldn't turn it down. I did swap the pedals with the ones I had on my 500.
It should last me as long as I am able to ride as I am almost 62 now!

You are more kind that I am in these situations. The dealer
priced it at one price then you were quoted a higher price which
you didn't verify (??) so I would insist on the "price as marked"
which is the law in most states.

anyway enjoy your bike mate.

You have a valid point Tightwad, however in retrospect I have thought about what I could have done and what I actually did and am satisfied with my outcome.
I emailed a relative that works for Trek and was told that bike would have cost him almost that much with his employee price.

Be careful with those "last bike" arguments. When I bought my Atlantis for a (one year late) 55th birthday present four years ago, I told my wife it was the perfect all-around bike, the last one I'd ever need, and since I didn't get a Porsche or a young girlfriend when I turned 50, it could be my midlife crisis.
I was right about the bike--it's perfect. But last spring I stopped by Rivendell to look at the retail store, and they had an ex-shop demo Rambouillet, a somewhat lighter, racier version of the touring-oriented Atlantis, with a SALE sign on it. The bike lists for about $2300 and I got it for $1000, so now I have TWO last bikes in the garage. And I'm thinking I need a recumbent....

Which do you like better, the Atlantis or the Rambo?

You could sell me the other one.

"Last new bike I will buy!"

You know you can always test ride a bike before you buy it, and then you can honestly say you didn't buy a "new" bike; you bought a used demo bike. OK, so that is pushing it just a bit, but we are, after all, talking about buying an one of those machines that seem to give infinite joy to those willing to use them....

Ahhh.....sounds like post-purchase rationalization to me.

Last bike because of your age? Ride 'er into old bicyclist's burial ground?

There will come a point where that is absolutely true-- or it becomes physically evident that its true.

But, in the meantime, I think I'll always be planning/fantasizing on the "next" bike.

You know, like "Butch and Sundance" planning to go to Hawaii next as they rush into a hail of fire from those Bolivians.............

Pretty nice deal. I have to say the LBS sounds like an honest type person. He probably could have used the profit but, he put good business ethics before $.
A friend and his daughter went to buy a car that was advertised at a pretty low price. The dealer made the mistake of taking them out in a fully loaded model in a bait and switch ploy. What he didn't figure on was that the daughter who looked all of 13 years old (cute little blond) was really an attorney who had just passed the bar exam. Well, they got the fully loaded car without any argument at the price they went to pay and saved about $15K. Love stories like this.

Maybe, but I sold a brand new bike to a fellow who was 79. Last I heard he was still going strong. I used to think that 62 was old, now i think that it's kind of "prime of life".

Considering the bike I was riding everyday is a 1983 I think I am safe to say I won't need another new one. The 83 is actually set up just the way I wanted but the draw of a new one was just more than I could turn down. My other bikes were all bought used so this one may not be the last bike I ever buy! You never know what lies down the road.

I don't know what state you live in but in my 30 plus years of retail I have never seen a law which requires a dealer a dealer to sell anything that is mis-priced at the lower price. I think you may be confused with advertised price. If it was advertised in the newspaper he may have to honor that price in some states, but a bike that has the wrong tag hung on it by an employee? Nope. The dealer in this situation did a very honorable thing, but wasn't legally necessary.
