Thanks! Hmmmm it is legal now isn't it, unless it is challenged in court because of the questionable Diego votes

Weight has never been a problem for me..... currently hovering around 145lb, so I don't belong in this thread, but I find it fascinating that even though my weekly miles are only somewhere between 50-100 and average about 10mph, in the 2 years since I came back to biking my waist has dropped from 38 inches to 34....the same as it was 50 years ago!

I'm sure glad I kept all those discarded trousers and shirts in my wardrobe where they've been stored for many years.

YEP, I am still here. Did an 86 mile ride yesterday. Weighed 250 before the ride and 246 after. I went through 150 oz of fluid and 4 protein bars. I had some last minute additions to my pack and left my fig newtons at home Here are the tabulations:

Week 0 (08/21/2006) - 254 lbs
Week 1 (08/28/2006) - 252.0 lbs (-2.0 lbs from week 0)
Week 2 (09/04/2006) - 254.0 lbs (back to square 1 )
Week 3 (09/12/2006) - 255.0 lbs (+1.0 from week 0)
Week 4 (09/18/2006) - 250.0 lbs (-4.0 from week 0)

Upper thighs are a little tight, and I developed a raspy cough at about the 70 mile mark. Feel very good this morning. Not as sore as I would have been on my DF.

I celebrated with a piece of PIE (blackberry) a plate of pasta (stroganof) and a SAM Adams beer

WHOOOOOO HOOOOOOO

Maybe it's something to do with the frugal character of the Scots and/or having been raised there during WW2 when clothes and just about everything else was severely rationed.....nothing that was even remotely useful was ever trhrown away.

Anyway, I am so glad to have got back on a bike and beginning to feel again what it's like to be reasonably fit. The shrinking waistline was a wholly unexpected bonus.

Sorry to have intruded into your thread Dnvr, maybe I should have posted a separate one.

Arrghhh!! Wife and I just got back from a week-end getaway at Grand Teton National Park. We ate a bit, but spent most of our time sitting outside waiting for some Moose or other critters to happen by so we could take their pictures. No good photos were gotten, and I gained yet another pound! Tomorrow we got to weight watchers! Since this thread started I have gained 5 pounds! I am not pleased!

I didn't have a very good week. The only ride I managed was the 86 miler on Monday. Weather and work schedule prevented anything else. I did manage to get on my X-trainer though, so that at least explains the plateau.

Week 5 (09/25/2006) - 250.0 lbs ( No change).

Just out of curiosity...why did you have to "sit and wait" while you were at Grand Teton NP? They have miles and miles of scenic trails you could have hiked instead.

FWIW, hiking burns around 80-100 calories per mile (or 300 calories per hour)...more if you're going uphill or carrying a pack.

Well, I am shy of the published age as well... as are a few others here. But, as long as we don't start turning this into one of the forums that worship youth, I have found that the legitimate residents are a very hospitable group, and not discriminatory about those of us who haven't been around long enough to gain the level of wisdom they have gained...

I am less than 5 months from the magical age, and looking forward to being "official" but until then, I feel at home here, and think anyone is welcome as long as they feel at home here. If it is not your up of tea, then try another forum, but if it is, sit down and relax... soak up the atmosphere here... While it isn't quite perfect, this is one of the most civil forums around!

Much appreciated for the kind words. My general philosophy is that we all have something to learn from each other no matter how small or meaningless it is at the time. and I have always.... well most of the time have found that my elders have the greatest stories and the best lessons to learn even though I may not believe them at the time.

Well you can join in, but you need to be aware of the initiation ceremony if you are less than 50. It involves 5 spokes, a king size jar of mayonaise, a flashlight, a turkey baster and an old Patsy Cline 45.
