How many bikes do you own.
 

I just acquired my fourth bike and was wondering, how many of you own more than one? My stable now includes: 05 Specialized Rockhopper (mountain)
05 Specialized Allez (Road)
06 SE BM Flyer (29" singlespeed)
06 KHS Solo One (26" singlespeed)

3 and 1/2 - I have a road, raod touring, old mountain, and 1/2 of my wifes mountain bike as she never rides it and I do occationally.

Five, personally, though there are others in the family:
--Rivendell Rambouillet
--Rivendell Atlantis (an all-around frame, with fat tires, sort of a combination hybrid/touring setup)
--Cannondale MB1000, mid-'90s hardtail mountain bike (don't ride it a lot, but I live a mile from a national forest and it's fun)
--Old Bridgestone MB3, set up with fenders, slicks and rack, for commuting
--'80s Trek 620 touring bike, converted to singlespeed, that I keep under the stairs at work to ride at lunch and around town.

And so little time.

Four bikes. None worth over $300. Most far less!

Only three.

I am seriously looking to adopt a comfort road bike to expand the family to four.

It would appear that the 50+ crowd is more interested in comfort than racing, with all respects to Will Dehne recent upgrade to racer deluxe status.:) (Note to Will no disrespect intended whatsoever, I am in awe of your accomplishments.)

1 Kettler Silverstar commuter bike (primary ride)
2 Specialized Crossroads hybrid, with fenders and lights (Backup bike; seldom used)
3 Wife's Nishiki road bike (I'm encouraging her to use it more)
4 Child's bike, training wheels removed (daughter's record is 15 seconds before getting off; working on longer)
6 Adams Trail-A-Bike (used every weekday in summer to transport child)*
7 InStep Turbo Trailer (Used to be primary child hauler; now occasional use for groceries)*


* Strictly speaking, not a bike, but a bike attachment. However, it can carry a person or cargo and is pulled by a bike.

32 and counting.

No joy in racing nowadays but bikes have to work. If they don't I don't ride them. Plus the fact that I prefer to get out and ride instead of the harder work of training- that gets in the way of my riding

As to no. of bikes- Too many

Never enough.

Specialized Allez criterium style bike..'87 but upgraded with Ergo, etc. A bone shaker but an old friend.
Bridgestone RB-T go anywhere, do anything....and it has.
Rivendell Romulus....a lovely long day cruiser and awesome descender.
Spec RockHopper.....fitted with SunTour-- to indicate it's age.

And The Great Unknow Future Bike....will the kids exit college before or after I'm too petrified with age jutify another?

Just spent a bit over an hour walking home after I flated at 25+ mph, and lost four spokes. So, right now I believe that five bikes own me.

I have thinned my herd recently... I have a 1 bedroom apartment with no garage, so I needed the room. I am down to:

1955 Schwinn Corvette

1960 Schwinn Jaguar (disassembled at the moment)

Early 1970's Austrian built Sears Finest 10 speed (currently an 18 speed)

1974 Raleigh Sports (Lady's frame) (anyone want a free bike?)

Mid 1970's Varsity... perhaps on its way to Ohio to a new owner

1980ish Nishiki Custom Sport (Currently a 10 speed, perhaps destined to become a 3 speed)

1989 Centurion Dave Scott Ironman Master

Early 1990's Raleigh MT-500 set up as a comfort bike.

2003 Giant Sedona DX

An old Huffy purchased with the Corky, in even worse shape. Trashed.

1970's Motobecane mixte. Parted out and trashed

1980 Ladie's Varsity. Parted out and trashed

1989 Cannondale Touring bike. Parted out and trashed

Some old bike I bought at a thrift store for the shifters. Parted out and trashed

1980ish Univega Custom 10. Donated to the Salvation Army... I see it around town.

Old Nishiki. Parted out and trashed.

No wonder I have so many bike parts in the apartment. :eek:

You've collected 4 bikes in less than 2 years?

Usually when one has 4 or more bikes, some are holdovers from long-past purchases, or restoration projects.

Me, I've only got 1, a mid-80's Bridgestone CB-1 that I bought new.

But I'm actively in the market and test riding new bikes. As others have indicated, right now I'm looking for a good quality but comfortable bike. Have tested everything from overly comfortable crank-forward Townies to more road-oriented hybrids like the Trek 7.x FX series, Cannondale, and Marin. At first I was leaning to comfort and almost purchased a very comfort-oriented model. But then I went out and put another 30-40 miles on the Bridgestone and have decided that I need something just a bit more performance-oriented. But not as road-oriented as the Trek FX, which roadies consider slow.

At some point this winter I will own 2 bikes. Maybe something like a Trek 7500 or Fuji Crosstown 1.0.

1. 2000 (or so) Klein Quantum Race "go-fast" road bike. Compact crank, carbon handlebar.
2. 1990 (or so) Bridgestone RB2 "retro grouch" road bike. It has no remaining original component parts.
3. 1993 (or so) Marin Bear Valley SE beater bike. It also has no remaining original parts.
4. 1998 (or so) Porsche FS mountain bike. Shimanoized.
5. 1998 Santana Noventa road tandem. rear brake has been updated with a 10" disc.
6. Raleigh Technium mountain bike frame (198?) transformed into a 700c fixed gear.

No matter which bike I ride, I alwsys feel guilty that I haven't ridden one of the others a bit more. They're kind of like my kids. I know that 6 is too many but I can't figure out which one(s) I could bear to part with.

I have 2 bikes, the most I've ever had at one time in my life.

1 is a MTB I have had since new. A GT Timberline, 1989 vintage I think.
1 is a Road bike I have had for about 6 months. It's a Trek 1100.

I have just replaced both wheels and the bottom bracket, got it tunned up and rode it home about half an hour or so ago (the Trek).

I have 4 at the moment, looking at a couple additions.
