So, now would someone explain the "pie" thing?

I was shooting for my first 20 mile ride today and I was told that I must uphold the tradition and stop about halfway and have some pie. Pie comes up a lot here. What is that all about, anyway?
But, ever the good lad, here it is:

This is the view from the southernmost point of my ride. I go here almost every Saturday.
My house is about 6 miles north of here:

And... my ride. 2006 Gary Fisher Kaitai with Armadiillo Crossroaders. She's a good bike:

Oh, and I made it! 20.45 miles on the day. 1K is 40 miles away now.

I'm jealous. We got 8 inches and then a deep freeze this weekend.

And pie is just one of those things that taste much better after a hard workout. Life should be as simple as: Ride. Eat Pie. Repeat.

Pie originated sometime back when one of our participants would go on a ride and always enthrall us with his descriptions and pictures of Irma's blueberry pies, a regular stop (and goal) along his route.

It just sort of grabbed hold, and it became de rigueur to have pie on a ride, with always a picture of that pie posted.

By the way, you posted some nice ride pictures - and I especially liked the picture of your pie, even though it is apple.

Why, thanks for the explaination, D-Fox. Now I know. And that pie tasted pretty good.

That view you see is looking N-NE; to your right is a beach where all the surfers hang out. There's a little sea wall and sidewalk there where I hang out and stare at the wom... ocean and surfers. That's where I had my pie.

Even though apple is about my least favorite pie in the world, it's all Denny's had other than Boston Creme and Chocolate pie. I went with the fruit. I really wanted Boysenberry
They were even nice enough to top off my water bottle. Thank you, Denny's.

I picked a tough ride today for my 20; there were pretty stout gusts blowing and it seemed now matter which direction I took (except West), it was in my face the whole time. The one time I was looking, it took me from 21 mph to 18. BTW, as soon as I can get someone to take a pic of me and my bike, I'll be sending in my bio.

"Thank you, Denny's"??? Thank you ,Denny's? You should retain an attorney immedeately and sue them for leaving that thumb on your plate! Any rookie loy-yah should be able to net you at least 3 mil.

Nice pics BTW.

Very nice photos. I did a 40 mile ride today, country roads from Mansfield to Alvarado to Venus, and stopped at about mile 28 for a sandwich at a Subway in Venus. Looking at your pie photo, I think I got the short end of that deal.

If you want to get *really* Zen about it, I must have understood because I stopped to get the pie

If the pie does not want to be eaten, it's ok to substitute...

But, ever the good lad, here it is:
Irma's has been voted the Virtual Clubhouse of the Forum- Thanks to the range and quality of Pies that she manages to bake. There are a few people around that do not seem to be bothered about pie- but They do eventually learn. "Apparantly"- Blueberry is the one to have but I have never had one so cannot comment.
Then there are the other Forms of sustinence that can be had- that are far more enjoyable than the Power bars- cereal bars- and squashed sandwiches that most of us used to put up with on rides. Over here in the UK- we have problems trying to find pie at most cafes- unless it is around Lunch time- so Gateaux- Cheesecake- Ice cream and probably the best of all- A Good traditional English Breakfast- are all good Substitutes. In fact- We rate our rides now on the Quality of the breakfast and go out of our way to Try out and rate the Breakfast on the rides. Problem is that the best one we know is only 5 miles or so from my house so we either cut the rides very short- or find a route that does the milage before we get there but then we are in trouble. They do a Breakfast and they do a "Big Boy". Never had the courage to have a Big Boy yet, but with winter set in- We might need it for the Hard ride home along a MUP that is slightly downhill but with the rain and wind and cold to slow us down on the way home. (Or would that be the Big Boy)

Just like getting out on your ride and enjoying it- Pie has become a necessity on this forum. If not for your own enjoyment- Just so that you can post a pic on the forum so the rest of us can drool over it.

Well done on the ride- And only 40 to go for your target for the year? Well done.

Now that you have the pie thing figured out, you'll probably want to know that it's also important to "name" your ride.....Several folks here can be very helpful if you can't come up with a suitable name. I think some have even resorted to posting a poll to get a consensus.

BTW-congrats on the 1K!!

When you're up for a longer ride, head a little further down the coast to Pescadero, where the landmark Duarte's serves up their world-famous Olallieberry pie (among other great things!)

Here are some pie quests:

Now, as a Newbie -- where is Irma's???

NEGATIVE! That's even worse. It means that even after stopping and eating the pie, you had to ask so you still don't get it. Sorry, but I'm afraid that you never will. Isn't there a healthy diet board somewhere that you should be posting on?

I guess if I don't get it, then I don't need to stop in the future -what would be the point?- and all those unnecessary calories go uneaten. Looks like i come out ahead. Thank you for saving me from that

Duarte's? Pescardero? I know them well, living right up the coast. That, and my band plays in San Gregorio once a month, just a jog up the road. Might be a while before I can ride there and back
I know that pie though...

Can you think of a more pleasant way to take on some carbs and lots of sugar after a long ride? Prevents bonking too. That's why the pie.

That is indeed me playing the National Delphi you see.
I play that, guitar and dobro in the Montara Mountain Boys https://www.brokendishrecords.com. We are not a bluegrass band -in spite of the name- but we do Americana/Country (real country)/blues/and some other stuff (we do a killer Summertime) all in our own style. We do covers, we do originals.

Music is the one thing i love more than my bike.

OK, there's my wife but other than that.

Oh, my dog. And my cat...

Actually, I have used search here quite a few times in the week or so I've been here but for this I wanted a different take on things. Point made and taken, however.
