Almost hit a squirrel today -- close call! Didn't hit him, but got his picture, which I'm posting here today. He's probably home safe now in his squirrel house, posting something on the Squirrel Fifty+ forum. I think he got my picture as well.

Squirrel vs. car..............

I spent my teenage years in an orphanage which had 'house-parents' running the cottages we lived in. Our house-parent was a wonderful older lady who had saved for years to buy a small car....perhaps a rambler. One day she was driving through the campus and a squirrel ran out in front of her. Being the kind person she was, she swerved to avoid the squirrel, went off the road, rolled and totaled her car. Sad but true.

Its the Squirrel of Caerbannog!

That's the most foul, cruel, and bad-tempered rodent you ever set eyes on!
He's got huge, sharp-- eh-- he can leap about-- look at the bones!

That's nothing - this one chased me for 1/2 a mile, and laughed as I sped away......

DG's squirrel is trying out for the squirrel olympics. She's trying out for the famous "jumping through the bicycle wheel" competition. Red Baron posted a picture of last years loser. US squirrels have won all of the last four contests. But the British squirrels are planning a come-back. They plan on jumping through the spokes on both wheels of a tandem. Be careful out there Stapfam!

Ain't worried about Squirrells on the Tandem- If a weedy little animal wants to jump out in front of the "T"- they don't stand much chance. Last year we T Boned a car, 2 other bikes and that tree that keeps jumping out in front of us. Haven't even bent a rim or broken a spoke yet. Mind you-If I start seeing them in the numbers I saw Last year on the Cycle Trails- I might be getting a Blunderbuss mounted on the front to cut their numbers a bit.
