Happy Pi day

Well, once again it's 3.14. Happy pi day, everyone. (I suppose one could eat piE today.)

Father: "What are you larnin' in school, sonny?"
Son: "Algebra."
Father: "Well then, say something in Algebra."
Son: "Pi R squared."
Father: "I'm taking you out of that school right now. Any dern fool knows pie are round!"

No pie for retro today. (sigh) At least I'm beginning to feel well enough to tolerate something other than chicken soup.

Can you relate the following poem to today? --

Poe, E
Near a Raven

Midnights so dreary, tired and weary,
Silently pondering volumes extolling all by-now obsolete lore.
During my rather long nap - the weirdest tap?
An ominous vibrating sound distrubing my chamber's antedoor.
"This," I whispered quietly, "I ignore."

I think on that site there were something like 5000 pages of numbers! SO, I opted for the abbreviated version.

One of my high school math teachers still remembers me because I could recite pi to 500 places after the decimal point. (I got started with pi at age 12, on an airplane flight back from Hawaii, with "The Lore of Large Numbers" in my lap.) However, a number of folks have memorized it to thousands of places.

When I started working at TSC in 1976, they still had rotary dial telephones, which permitted the geek humor of bracketing the "3" with e (2.71828... ) and pi stickers.
