My new bell...Fred or OCP?

I mounted a bell on The Diego. FRED!

The only place it fits is on the stem, not the handlebar, so it's mounted sideways. FRED!

It was the cheapest bell on the display. FRED!

What clinched the deal is that the bell is red, with black trim, the same red as The Diego. OCP!

Mounted one direction, it rings by itself sometimes when I go over a bump. I notice and don't like that. OCP! (Freds wouldn't notice, and wouldn't care if they did.)

Halfway through today's ride, I take it off and remount it the other direction, so it won't make noise unless I want it to. I only want attention drawn to me when I want attention drawn to me. OCP!

So I'm not sure -- is my bell further proof of my Fredosity, or is it evidence of untapped OCP powers?

DG, you have boldly gone where no one has gone before. You are both Fred in the extreme and extraordinarily OCP at the same time. You rokk, like totally.

Can you be an OCP Fred? Or, Freddly OCP?

Check out the huge dual tone "Ding-Dong" bell on my commuting/touring bike.

It's LOUD and works well even on a crowded MUP.

What's the...??? A ten-dollar adjustable stem? Innertube bar wrap? And a bell on the stem??? Oh, the horror of it all!

If you look closely at the bell you can see the reflection of a ghost. It's really creepy.

Well, since everyone else is, here's a picture. You'll note the World's Longest Stem being used on The Diego. Took the picture with flash, so the bell appears to be a slightly different shade of red than the bike, but IRL, it appears about the same.

It's turning heads, I can assure you.

Not sure about that, but there were many Power Ranger bells and Hello Kitty bells as well.

While Hubby was in the LBS picking up my pink helmet this week, a woman was buying a pink Kona (a Lisa?). Whatever she bought for the bike she wanted it to be pink, or not at all.

My face was good and pink when we returned from our first good ride this afternoon.... together with the helmet it must have looked like a big pink ball was sitting on my shoulders.

Bells are required on the trails around here. Worth a ticket if you don't have one. If you get one big enough, you can always take the top off, plug the hole, and use it as a bowl for dinner on a long ride.
Mine is just under the bars near my right shifter.

Bells are actually quite cool and extremely useful, especially on the urban trails. I've actually had female dog walkers thank me for ringing the bell as I approach.

I mount mine on the pump, same as the Belgian bike racers. There must be some kind of law in Belgium that says all bikes must have bells, unless you're in a bike race. So when you remove the pump to race, you also remove the bell.

Not a Freddy thang at all, folks!

Audible signaling devices are required in some countries on bicycles and several U.S. states require them as well but bicycle laws are rarely enforced here.
