A new convert...

Friend / colleague of mine may be joining the herd. He's finally gotten so fed up with the price of gas so he's going to start biking his errands (in Encinitas, for any locals reading this). He asked advice yesterday on beater bikes, locks, that sort of thing. It's a start!

Hope you can advise him on where to look. Only problem- How fit is he? Just a newbie to fitness?overweight by 60lbs? Been running 3 hour marathons as a way of keeping fit? If its the latter- Surely you can help him out with one of your old Mountain bikes that you may be persuaded to sell?

He's annoyingly fit. He's been a yoga instructor for years and years. And I think he's going to use (to start) the bike that's hanging in his garage, whatever it is.

You can always be friendly and offer to service it for him- Then he will have to buy another bike.

Hot damn.....a riding partner?! Cycling is an intensely personal, social sport. Just right for oxymorons like us BF types.

After spending a half hour trying to adjust my brakes and only making them worse, I took the bike to the LBS and the wrench made it perfect in 90 seconds. Then he showed me what to do, and it all made sense, and I nodded appropriately, and off I went.

Fifteen minutes later I realized I had no clue what to do next time.

We need to add another proviso to "over-50" for people who either post in this forum, or are even being talked about in this forum...

No one with less than 25% body fat! (Will D. excepted...)

Hate to tell you, but he's a 50+er. Probably about 54...

OMG......that's my little brother. He fell out of the cradle after I pushed him (he got the good looks) and was last seen traveling east with some itinerent yogi's preaching mind/body oneness and skin moisturizing therapy.

He has hair, and it is slicked back. I am automatically biased against him.
