Rode Someone Else's Age
Some of you may remember my post of last month, wherein I rode my age (60), along with a few folks from our Bike Club. The Beautiful Ms. Slim met us midway with birthday cake. Well, that idea caught on and another club member led a "Ride My Age" (60) ride Saturday.
The route was hilly at each end, flat in the middle. The eastern end of our county is high desert, as opposed to where I live, which is mountain and trees. Less than 30 miles separate the two topographies.
Starting at 9:30, 10 of us started out and soon hit the only real hill, a 4 mile moderate climb. The other side is shorter but steeper. We passed some other cyclists coming up. Didn't recognize them. Once we hit the valley, we had a nice tailwind. One of our riders is in his 70s. Last year, he was totally fredded out (not that there's anything wrong with that) and on a MTB. It was always, "Let's wait up here for, Bob." Now, on his new roadie, real bike shorts and a club jersey, He led us into our lunch stop.
Out in the valley, there are lupin (purple) and horses (in this case, brown)
We pulled into a local bakery in a town of about 1000 people, the halfway point. Soon after us, a couple of PYTs pulled in. We had passed them a few miles back, just unloading their bikes. We sent one of our women riders out to ask them to join this group of mostly men (average age about 60, not that there's anything wrong with that), but they declined.
The birthday boy had called ahead and there was a huge carrot cake waiting for us, his treat. After sandwiches, cake and Dr. Pepper, we were on our way.
Note all the club jerseys in this pictures. Most of the way in, we had a headwind, but as long as we stayed in a peloton, it wasn't too bad.
Most of the riders lived in the area, so as we passed by their turn offs, they peeled off. In fact, I was the only one who actually went back to the starting point. But it was a great ride. 66 miles at 14.5 mph (darned headwind). A century is planned for Saturday.

Great pics and it's interesting that you have now started a new local tradition!! You have a terrific and very scenic area in which to ride.

I was going through my pictures from this ride and found this one. I just held the camera backwards and snapped. It shows, however, the terrain in part of our county: High (4000-5000 feet) desert, flat, usually windy.
