Digital Gee 05-22-07 11:35 AM

I think I'm riding one of these!

Beverly 05-22-07 11:37 AM

I think I've owned a couple just like that one:rolleyes:

The Weak Link 05-22-07 11:42 AM

OUTRAGE ALERT!

I've just been informed that Terry Fly Ti saddles are on back order, in part because OCP's the world over are ordering them like mad. I'm going to have to wait two weeks to get mine.

We now return you to the scheduled thread. Had this been a true emergency......

That's the ladies' model, right? >naughty grin<

Tom Bombadil 05-22-07 06:23 PM

I sometimes have to approve advertising, there is no way I would have approved that one!

But biking gear companies run a lot of these kind of ads. As do many other companies.

Europead advertising is sometimes a different animal than it is in this country. For example: (I hope the link works) http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...q=need+glasses

Have seen the rock saddle. Prefer the granite model myself.

Would we call that rolling stoned?

tsl 05-23-07 05:23 AM

My club has one of those. It's mounted as a trophy and is called the Stone Saddle Award. It's given each year to a high-mileage rider, recumbents excluded. It went this past year to young (HS, college?) girl.

redtires 05-23-07 05:35 AM

omg that was funny! Did you all check out the other fine shelbroco products? LOL!!!

Tom Bombadil 05-23-07 09:13 AM

I think an even better trophy saddle would be an axe head mounted on a seat post.

jcm 05-23-07 09:55 AM

Lord Sheldon of Brown and Dr. Evil "Tom" Deakins have, well... nuanced minds... :D

HopedaleHills 05-23-07 11:13 AM

Is that, like, the flip side of sword swallowing? ;)

Now that I am fully acclimated to lwb recumbent seats, I do look at some roadie saddles and 'medieval torture device' is the only thing that comes to mind. I just don't know how you guys do it. Of course, at 59, I guess I'm an old guy. You get a different perspective. bk

Wasn't that stone saddle made by the Ki Ki corporation? Their motto is Ki, ki, kripes that's hard.

I was wondering who else may be using my favored saddle. I am a rather happy user of Terry Fly saddles for long distance biking (100+/day) consecutive. Use it on Treck Madone and Trail bike.
The Bontragger Race light were impossible for consecutive centuries.
I have tried many other saddles and Terry is a good choice.
Brooks is pretty and was comfortable when new. Brooks is an issue for long wet tours. Cannot keep them dry. The leather deformed and the rivets started digging in my rear. Ruined two Brooks that way. Not to mention the skin on my rear end.

I have a Terry Fly in the garage that I use occasionally. Since I bought the Specialized Dolce I use it all the time on the Madone. I keep switching saddles on the 1800C but I don't do long rides on it.

I have a Brooks B-17 in the garage and have only used it once. I liked it but just haven't put it back on any on the bikes. I'm thinking about putting it on the 1800C since I ride in a more upright position on it.

I took the Bontragers off each of the Trek road bikes. Those things caused problems after about 30 miles:( I still have the Bontrager on the mountain bike but I haven't put enough miles on it to determine if it's going to be comfortable.

I just got mine, and so far so good. It was either a saddle or a setback seat post, so I'm trying the saddle out. I was about an inch from KOP with the Brooks. I tried the Liberator, but it was to wide and cushy. So far so go, I'll know more tomorrow.

I switch back and forth from an upright with a Terry Cite saddle (designed for upright riders) and a Sun recumbent. I find the Terry pretty decent - although when I ride it without any padding in my shorts, I do find it less comfortable.

But in the last week I took test rides on 4 road bikes, two of them using saddles that get very good reviews in the on-line forums. I found three of them to be astoundingly uncomfortable and painful, with the fourth being marginally tolerable. It's now been 4 days and there are parts of me that are still healing from that experience.

On a couple of them, when I mounted the bike, I couldn't believe they expected someone to ride on that saddle. I got back from one short, 10'ish minutes, ride, which I had to cut short because it was so painful, and the guy tells me that it was his favorite saddle. I was stunned.

I've never ridden on a Brooks, so I have no idea what those feel like.

Sis likes upright so I put her on a Brooks B67. She has done 70 miles on it; and likes it a lot.
