Ever ride while intoxicated?

I see stories about car & truck drivers being intoxicated.

I've read stories about people driving boats being drunk.

There are stories about motorcycle drivers being drunk.

And recently there were stories about airline pilots being a bit tipsy.

But I can't remember reading about drunken cyclists. They must be out there. Anyone want to fess up, or share a story about others?

I'm afraid I can't add much to the thread, as I don't drink.

I rode while drunk only once: I was in my mid twenties, car had croaked, only had my bike to get to work. One night I stopped at a friends for dinner, had some wine. I decided I had better spend the night there. The friend didn't have a phone so I had to ride about 3/4 mile to a pay phone. I wasn't so scared when I did it but in retrospect a couple of weeks later, I realized how drunk I was--not falling down or falling over, but I reeeeely should not have ridden the bike! I have never done it again, too scarey.

In my younger days, to get out of the house, I used to stop by the liquor store on my bike, buy a bottle of tequila, ride out to the golf course or over to a friends house, and drink it. I was on a bike, and fortunately, never wrecked even though some nights I would ride 2 or 3 hours while drunk. The ex's continual fussing would get to the point I had to have some relief. Finally after 29 years of her fussing, and 4 years going to a shrink, I filed for divorce.

As Dr. King said, "Free at last, free at last, thank God Almighty, I'm free at last!"

I guess that was TMI, but you asked.

I can't share any stories about riding while drunk, or tiddly, or even after having a drink. Maybe I should head for that bottle of vodka and create the opportunity now

Funniest drunk on a bike I ever saw though goes back many years. I was heading into the city and waiting at a set of lights. A motorbike came around the corner in front of me. The rider looked a bit under the weather, his pillion, complete with torn denims and a bottle in his hand, was considerably more so. The motorbike leant to take the corner. The pillion leant with him. The bike straightened (and stood upright), the pillion did not, then gracefully slid off the seat and onto the road, where he sat and took a swig from his bottle

Sometimes you find it hard to disapprove of drunks

Richard

Climbing a hill in a ritzy neighborhood at midnight, I was weaving so bad, I ran over a curb and up a small bank with my front wheel. Since it was about 2 ft. higher than the back, I fell over. Luckily I was so drunk, I bounced,

Well, there was that once when our college math instructor didn't show up so about half of us held an impromptu class at the bar across the street. It was 2 miles home; what an exciting ride!

Yup, this past winter around Christmas. It was warm out for whatever reason, and we were going on the bikes to look at Christmas lights; was really neat. But I drank a 24 oz of some rot gut high power beer before leaving, and took one with me! I was on a Raleigh Gruv, crank forward old lady type bike. Believe it or not I was so hammered I put that thing up to 26 mph on flat ground. It's only an 8 speed. We had a real blast that night.

The discontinued Charlotte Midnight Madness ride. Probably would have made the Guinness Book of Records for the most drunks on bikes after midnight. A friend broke his collarbone on the ride, along with the three beer bottles in his back pocket. I, personally, never drank on the ride.

oh, gotta go, I feel my nose growing......

Hummmm, wonder why they discontinued that ride!!!! duh!!!!!

I ride a bike as my preferred way of getting places, and have done so for 30 years. I hate driving in the city and only use my car when bike or public transit won't serve my need. When I meet friends at a pub I cycle if it is within 5 km and the weather favourable, take transit when it is further.

I don't think I get drunk but I certainly do sometimes have more than intended. I am certainly legally over the limit on these occasions, and am glad I don't have my car. The last time was about 6 weeks ago and I could probably have been charged if stopped by the police. I am very careful when I know I am tipsy and am probably risking injury to myself, but not to others. This was the first time it had happened in many years, and I would have taken transit had I expected to have more than a couple pints of beer.

Once, about 20 years ago....couldn't keep to the right side of the
road at all. Kept drifting left...not a pretty picture. Got home in one
piece and I don't recall hearing any car horns....

Yes, I used to ride home from Fat Dawg's Rear, immediately across from Texas Tech campus, to my house three blocks away. This was usually after $0.50 pitcher night. Sadly, Fat Dawgs, and Fat Dawg's Rear, are now a part of history.

Absolutely not. I have enough trouble staying out of the gullies when I'm sober.

There was a guy killed here in Pittsburgh several years ago who ran into a parked car(no helmet) in the middle of the night. Never reported but you have to assume drink was involved.

I dunno. Ever since Sonny Bono brained himself skiing after popping some Lortabs....really. I dn't see how folks do it under the influence. I have trouble riding in a straight line stone-cold sober.
